Lenny BruceShout! Factory Records has announced the planned release of a six-disc CD boxed set featuring the work of comedian Lenny Bruce (nee Leonard Schneider). The boxed set will include 7 hours of previously unreleased material. Bruce’s comedy featured scathing political humor in tandem with off-color language that often got him in trouble (see pic) but made him an artist way ahead of his time.

Bruce had interesting things to say about Judaism too:

Dig. I’m Jewish. Count Basie’s Jewish. Ray Charles is Jewish. Eddie Cantor’s goyish. B’Nai Brith is goyish; Hadassah, Jewish. Marine corps – heavy goyim, dangerous -… Pumpernickel is Jewish, and, as you know, white bread is very goyish … If you live in New York, even if you’re Catholic, you’re Jewish.

Bruce died on August 3, 1966 of a heroin overdose. He was 40. Read more about him here. The boxed set will be available September 14, 2004.

  • Wonderful, just what we need, for those of us who don’t get enough laughs from the Democratic Convention.

By the way, I hope this doesn’t infringe on Whoppi Goldberg grabbing her crotch as an official political statement.

    Who needs George Carlin???

  • Maybe, just maybe, you’re wondering how come you’re so privileged as to receive this communiqué. Well, answer is simple, thanks to http://www.google.com and through the search words “blog” and “‘Lenny Bruce'”, I found the u.r.l to your website.

After perusing your website, I conjectured you’d be interested in my post titled, “sweetest nookie”. In this post, you’ll find some notions about how Lenny, were he around today, might comment about the recent kerfuffle in the Middle East.

Anyway, you’ll find the hyperlink to the post here.
