fiddy shekels?Yes. I have often railed against Jews co-opting African American culture in the hopes of feigning coolness (Hello Heeb Magazine? Public Enemy is on the phone! Flavor Flav wants his blunts and his forties back!). But man, this is just too funny, even for big bad cynical me. Enjoy and Shabot 6000 Shalom all y’all – ck in the West sayeed.

Addendum: Of course you should also check out the cute Who Let The Jews Out? Flash animation – that’s making the rounds as well. It’s a clever marketing gimmick meant to promote Schlepping Through the Alps a new book by Sam Apple – read more about it here. It worked too, because I am definitely getting the book!

  • Forties is a type of cheap beer. Blunts I believe are they take a cigar and empty the expensive tobbacco and then fill it up w/ a marijuana. It is typical American garbage to waste like that.

  • Well, actually, they usually empty out a Phillie, which nobody will ever accuse of being filled with “expensive tobacco.”

Although I’m not sure how one gets from “what is a blunt” to a sweeping indictment of American culture. I mean, as far as I know, the smoking of blunts is a phenomenon and crosses political and cultural lines. Even our Jewish brethren in the Holy Land do it.

Also, forties are not a type of cheap beer per se, it refers to a forty-oz bottle of beer, though the beer contained therein is often cheap.

  • I, jsirpicco have figured out one of the key secrets to the universe: why guys and girls in our gen don’t have a clue on how to meet their “beshert.” Wanna bet? jsirpicco.blogspot.com

  • i liked the “who let the jews out” flash thing better than this…
this one is trying just a tad too hard. good shabbos y’all.

  • You know how Snoop Kelevv greets his homies with “chuuuch?” I think I’m going to start greeting people with “Shuuuull.” Or, we could coin our own word: instead of saying things are “the shiznit,” we can say they are the “Shabbiznit,” in essence uniting the holiest day of the week with a rapstardization of a naughty word. Also, motherf*&kers could become “MOTheTribers,” which conveys all of the attitude and none of the pesky cursin’.

Shabot 6000 rocks, and not just ’cause they link to me.

    Shabbiznit Shalom, MOTheTribers.

  • Esther,
We’ve got our own greeting/sayings. And thanks to Woody and Seinfeld we’ve got the goyim saying them as well.

  • I thought it was pretty funny, if kinda predictable.

Where is this “who let the Jews out” thing? It sounds good.

  • Yes Janice – here till Monday. I figuredIt would be all chill and relaxed but I have obviously never spent a week in the company of anyone like Rabbi Yonah and Rachel and their kids. Those people are mega energetic and they wear me out – I am humbled at their daily routine, the sheer amount of things they do ancd their general level of energy augmented only by some coffee and Jelly Bellies. I thought Califrnia was supposed to be all mellow??

  • Coffee and Jelly Bellies awaited and still, I was sent back to nyc? This being the new kid on the blog sure carries some hazing period…

  • Esther: Well ya got to go to Long Beach – that’s pretty sweet no? I can’t believe you’re complaining!!!

  • CK, believe me, I’m not really complaining. I’m very grateful for the Jewliciousness of my life.

Besides, I always want more. I can’t help it…it’s the American consumer culture that has infected me…Shabbat shalom.

  • Forties is for a cheap beer. The best beers come in smaller
bottles like the Belgian trappist bears. So the implication
    is for Schwag like Budweiser.
The better weed you can get from either Canada or Europe via snail mail. Blunts can be filled w/ either Mexican Schwag or what they call Dro, alluding to Hydro ponics grown. But this is very expensive, in NY for example, a gram of sour diesel
bought from a delivery service is $30 a gram, and sometimes
$35. Whereas a mail service costs about $15-18 a gram
for AAA Canadian sweet grapefuit, or Blueberry, or for a fine Morraccan zero-zero hash, stealthily packaged.

  • ck, dude, glad you’re getting an education? 😛

I wish this pleasure upon you some time soon…

  • Oh, man, no one here knows what a forty is!?!?!? It’s not cheap beer in 40 oz bottles. It’s Malt Liquor. Does the names Steel Reserve, Hurricane, Magnum, Old English 800, St. Ides or Panther Man mean anything to any of you? Malt liquor’s alcohol content is too high that it can no longer be classified as “beer.” The alcohol content in Malt liquors is typically as high as 7 or 8%. It’s also super cheap. Usually around 1.50 – 2.00 dollars a bottle. Or at least it was when I was in college. It’s favored by gangsters, college kids and the homeless. Oh, and it tastes really, really bad.

  • The token comic relief in angry ’80s rap group Public Enemy, countering Chuck D’s conspiracy theories, Professor Griff’s anti-semitism, and Terminator X’s…uh…silly name. Known for starting a bizarre late ’80s trend of wearing clocks around one’s neck. Inexplicably famous again thanks to VH1’s “Surreal Life.”

  • Malt Liquor of course. How come I never see this in any of the liquor stores?

  • Did anyone else notice the link to the missionarry website at the bottom of the page? “Is sunday the Sabbath” lease to freaky place. Someone tell me it it a joke…please. Even a dumb Jewish site get Jewish readership.

  • Michael, let us not forget the Surreal Life spin-off, Strange Love, which is possibly more surreal than the original show. Oh yeah, and in that show, his lady love, Brigitte Nielsen (who is also engaged to someone else) calls him “Foufy Foufy.”

  • “I have often railed against Jews co-opting African American culture in the hopes of feigning coolness (Hello Heeb Magazine? Public Enemy is on the phone! Flavor Flav wants his blunts and his forties back!).”

i don’t get it. when you do it, everyone nods in concurrence. when rushkoff does it, he’s an asshole. i’ll never get you friggin’ jews.

  • Moby. You know it and I know it … Jews suck 😉
Rushkooff was the first person ever to comment on this blog so he can do no wrong by me !

  • do you think smoking weed on passover is sacreligious…. i really couldent see why not but i couldent so how it would be either … i need help

  • yo man this a beautifull sight its erev pessach so see and feel the light /high enjoy our freedom !!!
    all my love, sparky

  • Just had to weigh in on this matter of forties and blunts
from an aa point of view.
I used to drink forties when I was in college during the
70’s. And they’re similiar to quarts of beer.
Only they’re 40oz (hince 40’s) not 32oz (as in quarts).
It could be beer or malt liquor.
The hip hop culture of the 90’s has made the term popular thru their music. Blunts are popular because it masks the odor of marijuana of those smoking it.
