Hevron Arabs are fed up with ISM-ers Western ways.

See, when they aren’t busy harrasing IDF soldiers, and standing in front of bulldozers, it seems these paragons of social virtue are interfering with the religious and social values of the people they are supposed to be helping.

Several local Arab residents told the Kol Ha’Ir newspaper that the activists have been exposing the local youths to drug use and sexual promiscuity … One interviewee told Kol Ha’Ir that the volunteers show a disregard for the religious norms of the local villages and teach the local youth to reject and disrespect the traditions of their forefathers. “These anarchists come here and undermine the education we give our children. At first we took them in with hospitality – after all, they claimed they wanted to help us, so why kick them out? But very quickly they infuriated me with their lewd behavior.”

There have also been complaints of ISM volunteers inflaming violence. Go figure.

So, in an unusual tale of common interest between the two groups, the Arab population of Hevron asked the the Jews of Hevron to help by replacing the ISM volunteers with Arabic speaking Jews to help maintain peace.

Jews and Arabs in Hevron getting along? Arabs asking Jews for help? What next? World hunger ends and daisies bloom in Siberia?

  • It’s official, no one likes Hipster/Yuppys GO back to your PHish concerts and twirling around on acid, or at least Oregon or something!!

  • That always perplexed me, why the anti-Israel activists at my school were a weird amalgam of socialist ISM’ers and Islamicists. Newsflash, habibi: they don’t like no Muhammed.

  • Are you insinuating that there is something wrong with Oregon? It’s bad enough no one knows where our state is, or how to pronounce its glorious name. For the record it’s ORYGUN, and all hipsters, yuppies, right wing assholes, stinkin hippies, and foreigners (including the french) are welcome. Also, we could use a boost in the Jewish community out here, so feel free to make “Ore-aliyah” as I have now innapropriately named it.

  • ISM are a bunch of doo doo’s. I hope they get what’s coming to them from both the IDF if they would stop being so damn prissy and the local arabs quoted by the reporters.

I can’t label this nonsense as some have bec. it is a reputable news source, the Kol Ha’ir, it has been around since approx mid 70’s, and is an excellent publication. At one time, it was a freebe, but they have since charge for it.

  • Mobius: Too bad the infoshop link, provided in your response, doesn’t work right now (no now it works fine). The same commentors on that site that call Israel a racist colonialist Zionist entity admit that there have been problems with some anarchists who volunteer to work on behalf of Palestinian causes in the West Bank. I recall they discussed past incidences of innappropriate dress, lewd behavior, public drunkeness etc. (the result of revolutionary tourism?) While the A7 article is of dubious credibility, it does serve to highlight the inevitable shenanigans that are sure to come up when you put anarchists in the midst of a deeply conservative, traditional, religious and patriarchical society. It also highlights the double standard employed by these activist elements who jump on even the slightest Israeli human rights issue, but ignore far more grievous affronts to anarchist sensibilities amongst the people they seek to help – ie systemic sexism and subjugation of women, the oppression of homosexuals, the perpetuation of narrow tribal interests etc. etc. Hey… this would make for a great sitcom! Or reality show … Real World Ramallah … See what happens when anarchists stop being nice, and start getting real.

Also, I’m with Harry. You have to stop labeling anyone who discerns the undeniably Jewish character of the West Bank as a Kahanist. There was no Kahane around in 1929 when they massacred the Jews in Hebron.

  • Kol Ha’ir is not a dubious source. Yes it appears on A7 but the are quoting an article in Kol Ha’ir. I don’t see this as dubious.

  • i have just thoroughly revised the article to reflect new information which reveals how twisted an absurd this entire situation is and which also debunks the kol hair piece.

  • It could be there is no way to know much about these shadowy and devious looking ‘peaceniks’. It could be all a made up BO/B.S.

Where is that awesome web link of yours mobi?
