I am watching The Wellsprings and Yael Mayer is about to go on. The show is taking place at the Mint in LA, I am watching from Jerusalem and the MC, Rabbi Yonah, just gave me a shout out. It’s like I am right there and I know that I am watching along with Luanna in Brazil, Tanya in Baltimore and Yariv in Haifa.

Tomorrow at 5 pm PST Rabbi Yonah is going to receive the Mark Meltzer New and Innovative Programing Award from the Jewish Communal Professionals of Southern California for his work with Jewlicious running programs like this. We’ve been live broadcasting our shows and events for years already. From our perspective, it doesn’t seem so innovative. We just kind of take it for granted that we are going to use whatever it takes to get our stuff out to as many people as possible. Of course we’re on the Web, Facebook and twitter. We’re one of the few Jewish organizations that have an iPhone app (and soon Android too!), we live broadcast our Festival staff meetings, creating a degree of organizational transparency that is sometimes creepy! – and we do all this for next to nothing.

Are we innovative because of all the tech geekery we employ in the furtherance of our uhm… non-existent mission statement? Are we innovative because of the quality of our programing? Are we innovative because as an Orthodox Kiruv movement we don’t shy away from gender balanced programing? (I’m kidding. We’re not an Orthodox Kiruv movement fer chrissakes!) Nah man. We’re not innovative at all. Don’t let the fedoras fool you.

OK so Yael is about to go on. This blog post is over! If you’re reading this fresh off the presses, you can watch JewnFest live at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jewnfest
