Today is the 10th anniversary of the attack on New York’s Twin Towers that killed nearly 3000 people. There will be commemorations and memorials all around the world – 9/11 is one of those dates that “live on in infamy” – anyone who was around then can recall with clarity where they were and what they were doing when they first heard the news. In Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Daniel Shapiro, American Ambassador to Israel will stand together for a moment of silence as a siren wails at 4 pm today. Afterward they will give speeches about America and Israel’s fight against terrorism. The venue is The House of Quality Gallery (Hebron Road 12, Jerusalem, opposite the Cinematheque). The venue is also the site of an exhibition of photos taken by Robby Berman, Director of the Halachic Organ Donor Society on Sept. 11-12, 2011. Space is limited to the first 175 people arriving and admission is free. For those who can’t make it Robby will be giving a guided tour explaining his photos and his experiences on that day. Others are invited to share their own experiences at the later session (admission 20 nis). For those who can’t make it, you can see Robby’s photos online here and the exhibition runs till September 30th.
