labshul

So I’m listening to this guy chant the names of pagan deities like Krishna and Vishnu during the live broadcast of Yom Kippur Services over at Lab Shul, and the only conclusion I can come to is that I am super duper intolerant. And that’s ok. Earlier I heard a new arrangement of “Kel Yeshuati,” a prayer that is usually sung at Havdalah. But of course Havdalah, a ritual that separates a holy day from a regular day and the service, as it were, was hours from completion. Now another dude is chanting a Muslim prayer… and the most authentically Jewish thing so far? A Christian Pastor singing a Carlebach niggun. Yeah. Not my cup of tea. Sorry.

I’m watching this from Israel. My Yom Kippur is over by the way. Just so you know.

  • If you read on book this fall make it Saving Bill Murray by Joshua Lorenzo Newett. Best, and most insightful, read of 2013 so far
