More importantly, is there a prayer for the Port a Potty in the field of the Zone of Totality…?

Yes. Thank you Lord, our G!d, for providing this Port a Poddy for our needs and bless the people who rented it, set it up, and will dispose of it.

And is there a prayer to recite upon viewing the eclipse with the proper eclipse glasses?

YES

The Rabbinical Assembly of Conservative Judaism has the following prayer HERE (includes the Teshuva)

One who witnesses an eclipse should ideally recite the blessing: Blessed be… BATALOG… whose power and strength fill the world
or
Blessed be BATALOG… who performs the work of creation.

In addition, one may certainly add personal meditations or readings from our classic texts, like
Psalm 121 or 148, or”El Adon” from the Shabbat Morning Shacharit. You can also go to Camp Ramah in Georgia

Union of Reform Judiasm: The suggested prayer from the Reform movement prayer can be found HERE: …Actually, I can’t find it… but they have a great page on #Charlottesville HERE.

Temple Beth Miriam of New Jersey has a page HERE

If you are in Lincoln Nebraska near the Path of Totality, visit these two shuls

The Hillel with the best view of the total eclipse is at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

The Orthodox Union… well they don’t print a prayer, but they have a video HERE.

An Ann Arbor Reconstructionist Congregation has a lovely discussion HERE as well as HERE

Chabad appears not to have a special prayer, but recommends introspection HERE
or the general…
Baruch Atta Ado-noy Elo-hai-nu Melech ha’olam osei ma’asei vereisheet. Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who reenacts the works of creation.

Baruch Atta Ado-noy Elo-hai-nu Melech ha’olam shekocho ugevurato malei olam. Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, whose power and might fill the world.

JudaismAndScience.org recommends
As the eclipse nears . . . Barukh Atah – Blessed is the Source of Life that fashioned the stars, that sends forth heat from the Sun to warm us and light from the Sun to nourish the food we eat and provide the wonderful colors that so enrich our lives.

When standing in the shadow . . . Modim Anakhnu Lakh – We are thankful for the opportunity to be reminded how fleeting and precious our time here is, how bound we are, one to the other, how much we should treasure the moments we have and the people with whom we share this most amazing planet.

As light reemerges . . . Barukh Atah – Blessed is the Sustainer of Life. May we be refreshed and renewed by the harmony of the spheres, and may our lives be worthy of the gift we have received and continue to receive through the arrangement of the cosmos.

** Thank you to Rabbi Daniel Dorsch of Congregation Etz Chaim of Marietta, Georgia for the print out of the Rabbinical Assembly prayers.
*** Thank you CNBC Jane Wells for the info on Port o Potties. She walked the last two miles of her trip since the CNBC van took rour hours to cover those two miles to the campsite.

  • Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your content seem to be running off the screen in Internet explorer. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design and style look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Thanks
