Superbowl Preview: 3 of The Superbowl’s Jewish Ads

In the United States, NBC is set to broadcast Super Bowl LII (52) from Minneapolis, MN on Sunday evening, February 4, 2018. The cost of a 30 second ad exceeds $5 million. There will be about 100 television ads during the game’s four quarters, or about 51 minutes of advertising, including network promotions for the Winter Olympics and other upcoming broadcasts.

Superbowl LII will feature the New England Patriots playing against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Robert Kraft has owned the Boston-based team since 1994. A graduate of Columbia and Harvard, he and his Kraft-family members are celebrated for their Jewish and Israel-focused philanthropic projects. Jeffrey Lurie is the primary owner of the Eagles. A Boston native, he grew up in a family that founded General Cinema and ran Harcourt, Carter Hawley Hale, and a beverage bottling business. He received his PhD from Brandeis University.

Visitors flying into Minneapolis’ commercial airport terminal will be greeted by an photo exhibit of 52 Twin Cities area Holocaust survivors who each discuss survival and trumph over tragedy.

Among the televised ads that will be shown during the game are:

Actress Tiffany Haddish (“Girls Trip”) appears in an ad from GROUPON. The ad was created by O’Keefe Reinhard & Paul. Haddish refers to herself as a Jew-Jo, since her mother is a Jehovah’s Witness and her father is Jewish-Eritrean.

Actor Danny DeVito appears in an M&M commercial. Mr. DeVito, who hails from New Jersey, is the fromer usband of actress Rhea Perlamn. Her serves on the board of a Middle East peace advocacy group.

Although Bill Hader (SNL) is not Jewish, his brother Jew Hader is, according to Sarah Silverman who used to date Jew. He appears in a Pringles ad from GREY NEW YORK (named Grey decades ago, so as not to sounds like a Jewish Madison Avenue ad agency)

P&G’s Febreze advertisers their product for SUperbowl party bathrooms, featuring Dave, a young man whose #BleepDontStink. Are he and his parents Jewish? I doubt it, but his ex-girlfriend is (IMHO)

Long version from Grey New York’s Bryan Buckley

Actor and activist Matt Damon is featured in an ad for Water.org, sponsored by Stella Artois. Damon is a co-founder and board member of the group. Jennifer Schorsch, formerly with Starbucks, is the President of water.org. Anheuser-Busch InBev is the parent of the Stella Artois brand. The agency is Mother. Anheuser-Busch also will run another water ad (Stand By Me, below). Luckily, the agency had cameras in the project leader’s bedroom when the emergency call came in during the night.

Los Angeles’ KTLA Morning News reporter Sam Rubin appears in the following M&M’s commerical advertisement:

Coca Cola will most likely show a 60 second ad titled “The Wonder of Us” that celebrates a variety of pronouns and personal uniqueness. Diet Coke might also show an ad directed by Paul (Freaks and Geeks) Feig for its “Because I Can” campaign. Feig is sort of MOT, his paternal grandparents were Jewish.

Turkish Airlines returns to SUperbowl 2018 with an ad featuring Dr. Mehmat Oz. Turkish Airlines flies to Tel Aviv at a popular discounted fare. The ad, titled “5 Senses.” has Dr. Oz say the word, “Touch”… but not in a creepy #MeToo way.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler is not a “MOT,” although when he performed in Israel in Spring 2017, he said he was making ALIYAH and moving to the State of Israel. Tyler appears in a Superbowl 2018 ad… not as a Skittle… but as a car driver who miraculously grows younger as he drives the KIA to the score of DREAM ON (this may be a secret message… referring to Tyler’s love of Herzl, who wrote, ‘If you will it, it is no dream on; and if you do not will it, a dream it is and a dream on it will stay).
