On Friday, a play – a farce – named MEIN KAMPF opens in the lakeside town of Konstanz, Germany at Theater Konstanz. It tells a story of a youthful Hitler. Theater patrons who wear a theater-supplied swastika will get free admission at the opening. Others can pay full price and wear a yellow Star of David. It opens on April 20, the birthday of Hitler. The theater producers say that it is performance art and attempts to show how easily people can be corrupted. The Hungarian playwright, Georg Tabori, died eleven years ago. In the show, a young Adolf Hitler is living in pre-WWI Vienna, hoping to gain admission to the Academy of Fine Arts. An old Jewish neighbor who lives in his boarding house inspires Hitler to seek political office.

TASTELESS

On the topic of tasteless…

At the ECHO AWARDS in Germany (akin to the American GRAMMY AWARDS), German rappers Farid Bang, 31, and Kollegah (Felix Blume), 33, received an award for their rap with anti-Jewish lyrics. Their album “Young, Brutal and Handsome” includes the song “0815,” in which they rap: “Bodies are more defined than an Auschwitz prisoner” and “I’m doing another Holocaust, coming with a Molotov cocktail.”

In the middle of the awards ceremony, Campino, the lead singer of Germany’s most famous punk band, Die Toten Hosen, skipped his acceptance speech and instead RAILED AGAINST the rappers, saying that he appreciates provocation, but, “for me personally it crosses the line of acceptability when lyrics include misogynistic, homophobic, right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic insults.”

Florian Druecke, chairman of the BVMI music industry association, wrote that, “We emphatically apologize to you and everyone else whose feelings were hurt by this.” The letter was sent to Charlotte Knobloch, a Holocaust survivor, community leader, and critic of the award. Druecke gave this non-apology apology and excused the association by saying the the award is based on retail sales.

OUT OUT DAMN SPOT.

And in other bloody news from Berlin,

An 21 year old Israeli Arab man (Adam Armoush) in Berlin dressed in “Jew-face” — he wore a kippah. He was attacked and hit with a belt by an Arabic-speaking youth. He was trying to show that Muslim citizens in Berlin were not anti-Jewish, or seeing if it really is dangerous for a kippah wearing Jewish person to walk in Berlin.

Oops. A failed experiment.

He told Deutsche Welle that he was an Israeli Arab, saying, “I’m not Jewish, I’m an Israeli, I grew up in Israel in an Arab family.” German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the attack in Berlin. On Thursday, the attacker turned himself into the police. He is a nineteen year old Syrian asylum seeker.

Good luck on that asylum application
