Vancouver Muslim leader espouses jihad, calls Jews ‘monkeys and swine’

Canoe.ca reports:

In a lecture posted on the mosque’s website, Sheik Younus Kathrada tells an audience all real Muslims want to be martyred. “It is inconceivable that a true believer will not desire martyrdom,” Kathrada says.

In his lectures, he has also called Jews “the brothers of monkeys and swine…”

Kathrada, leader of the Dar al-Madinah Islamic Society mosque in east Vancouver for the past six years, was unable to recall when it was that he had made these statements, “If it’s on there and my name is on it then I must have. I don’t recall the date.”

Reaction from other members of the Muslim community included these comments by Aziz Khaki of the Committee for Racial Justice: “God may forgive him… I don’t even waste time on such characters.”

  • And while I currently reside on Granville St. in Vancouver, I once lived on Commercial Dr. in East Van. Scary stuff man. Scary.

  • I think time should be wasted on such characters, lest someone be led to believe that their opinions were representative.

  • It’s a weird community. I mean, compared to Montreal…where I was born and raised. The local Jews stay to themselves, and don’t really get involved in too much Jewish stuff. Out of town Jews living in Vancouver do…mostly to date and have a hot Friday night dinner. There’s enough shuls of every stripe to satisfy most folk, and yes, Chabad is alive and well in BC. A very, very beautiful place to live. Although I’ll be moving to Toronto in May. C’est la vie.

  • “As for Toronto, it has really become an overcrowded zoo and very challenging to live in”

Super. Everything I’m dreading about the place.

  • I was born and raised in Toronto. It’s by no means as fun or cool a city as, say, Montreal, but it’s quite a decent city. Lots of parts of distinct cultures that represent proudly, plenty of vibrant sub-cultures (don’t listen to CK when he denies this or ‘edits’ my post :)) and though the cost of living is a little high by canadian standards, it isn’t crazy bad. It’s also intellectually a vibrant town thanks to two large universities (one of them, U of Toronto, is quite a good university and not just by canadian standards). Stay away from Missisauga and Scarbrough, though; they truly suck.

  • I think it looks like a fine place to live if that’s where making a living drives you because it’s harder elsewhere.
