Finally, the French do something right

Haaretz reports that:

A French court ordered a prompt end to satellite television broadcasts to Europe by Lebanon’s Hezbollah guerrilla group on Monday on grounds they were clearly anti-Semitic and a potential threat to public order.

Eutelsat, the company that carries the broadcasts, has 48 hours to comply with the court order, or risk heavy fines. Amongst Hezbollah TVs programming, were allegations that Israel spread AIDS in Arab countries by sending them AIDS tainted exports. That affront to science and intelligence alone should have earned them the boot.

  • It did earn them the boot. Of course, one has to wonder what the French were thinking giving them a license in the first place.

Now, since we know the French are friendly to upstart TV stations, may I suggest Jewlicious Broadcasting Corporation?

  • Why are so many people against the French? Especially most Americans and Canadians who’ve never been there. Having studied in France, I can assure you many French people are the salt of the earth.

  • Dave: I lived in Paris for nearly 2 years and have visited frequently as well. When I say France sucks, which it often does, it is from the perspective of someone who’s been there, speaks the language, wants to love it, but is almost constantly disappointed.

  • I’ve loved France ever since that first girlfriend introduced me to cheese, wine, and the whole ex-pat culture of Canadians and Americans living in Paris.

I just wish they would stop trying to maintain influence in the Middle East by screwing Israel and treating it badly all the time.

  • They licensed it specifically in order to be able to ban it. The deal was to have them sign an agreement, then presto — a violation was found. Good coverage in Libération.

  • The Muffit is largely with TM on this one. French women are hot, french wine is tasty, french bread is crusty and french cheese is, well, delicious. And really, it’s only Parisians that we should all hate! My brief but informative travels through France revealed just how much they spoil it for the rest of the country! Let’s not overlook these things when get all Dreyfus on their asses…

  • A strange fact but true: Charles de Gaulle’s father was PRO-Dreyfus.
