Free at last, free at last… Thank G_d Almighty we are free at last!

Ernst Zundel, convicted liar, hate monger, crackpot and Holocaust denier is now out of Canada forever. He has been deported and is in the custody of German authorities.

German police took him to the southwestern city of Mannheim, where he was to spend his first night back in his homeland in police custody, local police spokesman Elmar Ludwig said. His arraignment was set for Wednesday.

Zundel, a German citizen, faces up to 5 years in jail for Holocaust denial, which is a crime in Germany. I hate to kick a man when he’s down, but what the f*ck. Good riddance freak.

  • i wouldn’t use the word freak ck. think freak undermines zundel’s (potential) impact. but i might just be strangely nit picking late at night while doing laundry.

  • and it’s also “we are free at last.” Thanks for the heads up. Fixed the quote which is of course from Marttin Luther King Jr’s famous < a href="http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/Ihaveadream.htm" target="_blank">“I have a dream” speech.

  • I have to say that while this guy is basically evil, Holocaust denial shouldn’t land you in jail.

  • Yisrael: it’s not just denial, it’s also inciting anti-semitic acts.

CK: Don’t rejoice too quickly, though. France has recently deported Fateh Kamel back to Canada. The Conservatives want him stripped of his citizenship and sent back to Algeria, but the Libs will have nothing of it. For a very relevant political cartoon, check this out.

  • jason: is it legal to strip someone of his citizenship once you’ve given it to them? if the gov’t gives a permanent resident citizenship, then does the gov’t have a right to revoke it? (i don’t know, i’m asking) shouldn’t these things have been looked into before citizenship is granted and if problems arise afterwards you would have to deal with it as you would with a born canadian who committed a crime? would revoking kamel’s citizenship require changing the law?

  • “it’s not just denial, it’s also inciting anti-semitic acts.”

Inciting imminent lawless action or conspiring to commit a criminal act are fine reasons to throw someone in prison. I am not totally up to speed on this guy, but I have not heard that he has committed such acts. If I am wrong, I will gladly concede. But, if he is guilty only of holocaust denial, spreading anti-Semitism, etc., he probably should not be in prison, no matter how much I would like him there.

  • ok, from the canadian citizenship act here
canada does not seem to distinguish between born citizens and naturalised citizens. (please correct me if i’m wrong – my legalese is pretty awful). if we start revoking citizenship, then immigrants would be second class citizens and i’m not sure whether this is a road i’d like to go down. not a fan of kamel but i think canada is right to deal with it squarely.

  • Yisrael: The prison bit is German law. Being pro-Nazi in Deutchland is a crime. The extradition is simply the Canadian government’s way of saying “Look how good we are.”

Fuzz: to counterpoint the above, stipping him of his citizenship would be valid if, and only if, Fateh commited detrimental acts to the state. Ultimately, a citizen takes a positive role within the state. So, if Fateh goes and does something ‘terror’able, he should either be stripped of his citizenship and deported, or should be drawn and quartered. But as he hasn’t done anything, and as the current Canadian government doesn’t believe in preventative measures, then Fateh is going to enjoy the warm and luxurious Canadian climate 😉

  • Ernst Zundel was never convicted of a crime in North America. Instead, he was charged In Abesntia for allegedly mailing material to Germany and operating a website in the U.S. that offended German authorities. This is akin to mailing a bottle of liquor to Saudi Arabia and being charged and then deported there to face imprisonment.

Here is a recent article that offers an interesting take on Zundel:

  • But Jay, being deported and going to a German prison couldn’t happen to a more deserving person than Zundel. Doesn’t he express support for the violent and criminal aspect of German history?

By the way, nobody goes to prison in Germany for “offending” somebody. They go to prison for violating the law.

Now that I think about it, it would be great if Zundel would be appointed as Yigal Amir’s new cellmate and all visits by Amir’s fiancee were forbidden.

  • Shaul states that Mel Gibson and his father have to be deported too. Why? Shaul, has Gibson’s movie offended you? If, so I wonder why. Do you recall the fuss, your rabbies and their blind followers made even before the movie was launched yet they never even saw it?
Your attitude strengthens my belief that that book, the Bible, which you call antiSemitic, is speaking of the truth when it came to who has betrayed Christ and desired his death by crucifixion. By the way, I am a Christian and I will discover from your word whether or not what is often called by you “persecution” is justified.

  • Octav… Jesus had to die. If you believe in Jesus you know that he died for your sins. You are no less a Christ-Killer than the Romans that nailed him to the cross. In killing Christ, Christian theology declares that God’s will was being fulfilled. I’m not trying to be coy – I am trying to show sensitivity and if anything I’ve just said is wrong, please by all means let me know.

  • “That which happened during the passion of Christ cannot be blamed on the Jews of the time and certainly not on the Jews of today,” said Brazilian Cardinal Claudio Hummes … “We must be very careful in our catechism and our teaching not to teach in any way an interpretation of the Gospel that can stimulate anti-Semitism,” Hummes said through a translator.

  • The Ernst Zundel case is a real shame for Canada. Now Canada says clearly – sit quiet, have no your own thoughts, even you’d better be a slave (stupid taxpayer) otherwise – go back to your country even 40 years later… Nice! What a b.s. democracy they are talking about, where is that freedom of speech etc.??? Shame, shame, shame!!!! That’s why I hate immigration – you’ll never feel it’s your own country, you are a permanent guest forever. Sick!
