Good Purim, Good Purim, let the festivities begin!

“When the month of Adar begins we increase in joy”
(Talmud Ta-anit 29a)

Rosh Chodesh Adar (bet) is upon us and Jerusalemites waste no time in getting the party started in preparation for Purim. Some clearly more religious friends of mine have been going for a month already having started the celebration on Rosh Chodesh Adar Aleph (during leap years they add an extra month of Adar. Very few complaints are heard).

My month of being b’simcha began after a long, stressful day and near fatal computer crash that forced me to pry myself away from other sites I’m working on and pay a long over due visit to the infamous “Boogie” with some much loved friends.

What a crazy-funny scene. Both religious and secular folks of a fair to moderate hippy persuasion dancing to the most eclectic mix of music; from 80’s pop to reggae to Arabic, salsa, and some remixed Breslov tunes thrown in for good measure.

And because its Adar/Purim, everything gets turned upside down, and every party is holy!
