He Knows Things

Harry (He Knows Things ®) and his wife Ziva bring us what I think is Israel’s first anglo podcast. What’s a podcast? Loser… whatever.

Anyhow, they are sooo cute. They chat freely about their town, their gym, the Eurovision song contest (the what?), Shiri Maimon’s breasts etc. Future podcasts promise to feature Moshe, the Gay Israeli Robot as well as “the METAL hatikvah by DJ Blood!” Anyhow, visit Harry’s blog The View From Here, and pat your bad ass progressive self on the back for being sooo cutting edge.

  • Whats the big deal about ipods anyway? Just some gadget that’ll go out of style the same way clothing does.

  • 5-60 gigs of storage for your music in a tiny little package. iPods represent the impending death of big commercial Radio and Podcasts, which you can download and listen to on your iPod represent the democratization of media. It’s a pretty big deal. If you care read the articles in Wired here and here. Plus if you’re interested you can get the entire daf yomi on your iPod – which we’ve already reported on.

A 40 gig iPod will hold uh… 2,500 odd mp3 songs. Think about that.

  • I so need to get on top of this Podcasting action.

I’ll go one step further: I think we need to Podcast from Jewlicious @ The Beach.

  • So in reality this is just a glorified tape recording that can be listened to through an Ipod?

  • Bingo TM.

    We’re a funny culture huh?

Anyway, Ipod’s are a silly waste of money. Not because of the technology, but you’re paying for the brand and design. I went with an Iriver. My machine has 20 GB of space, audio recorder (which came with an ext mic), FM radio, and was cheaper than the Ipod. You have to purchase each of those accessories individually and attach them to the iPod. How dumb is that?

  • Dude, I’ve gotten a Dell. A Dell DJ (digital jukebox), which is bigger than an iPod, but smaller than a cassette recorder. It has an audio recorder (for those emergency interviews–haven’t figured out yet if I could use it to record a podcast) and 15 gigs. And I’m loving the shuffle function, that enables me to go from Avenue Q to Def Leppard in sixty seconds.

  • Esther,

Did you know that Thomas Dolby (She Blinded Me With Science) played keyboards on Def Leppard’s Pyromania. I just read that yesterday. How odd.

  • Why can’t you just upload the songs you want to listen to instead of carrying your entire mp3 colection around?

  • Because if, say, the urge for “Satta Dub” hits me, and all I have uploaded is “King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown,” then I’m SOL. But if I have my whole library uploaded, well, gee, I can listen to whatever I want to, and it all fits in my pants pocket.
