Who would have thought this would be Jewlicious?

creep·y
adj. (Informal) creep·i·er, creep·i·est

  • Of or producing a sensation of uneasiness or fear, as of things crawling on one’s skin: a creepy feeling; a creepy story.
  • Annoyingly unpleasant; repulsive: the creepy kids next door.

Unfortunately, the dictionary had no entry for ‘Jewlicious’, so:

Jewlicious
i. adj. (Infromal) (adv.: Jewliciously)

  • Relating to an event, state or object that is both extraordinary cool and of positive interest to Jews. Sandy Koufax refusal to pitch on Yom Kippur was totally jewlicious.

ii. n.

  • A site run by a bunch of cantankerous nuts with an interest in providing posts that are jewlicious. And sometimes about Dov Charney.

  • what’s jewlicious about “creepy”? “creepy crawlies” aka “shkootzim” is the same word applied in yiddish slang to non-jews. ie., creepiness is entirely a non-jewish characteristic according to our horribly xenophobic and insensitive (yet brilliantly biting, witty and often hillarious) culture.

  • You mean that I’m raising my kid with xenophobia and insensitivity, especially with respect to gentiles?

Nope, I’m afraid Mobius is wrong. I surely hope his parents didn’t raise him that way.

  • hello, my name is the middle, and i wouldn’t know sarcasm if it bit me on the tuchus. and yiddishisms like shkootzim, shaygetz, shiksa, and shvartze, cleary goes over my head like nyeeeeeeeew. it’s not my fault, you see. my grandparents didn’t live long enough to share their colorful language with me.

  • There are books. Start w/ Irving Howe’s yada yada epic, “World of our Fathers”, it will give you the flavor and the background to the whole affair.

According to Howe, ( he is something of a scholar), the early Zionists were so sure that the masses of Russian Jews who had emigrated to USA in the 1880-1900’s period would pick up and join then in what was then called Palestine.

The poverty and wretched conditions that Jews lived in primarily on the lower East side, were news to me. People would rent an apartment and then rent out inches to other boarders, even poorer than themselves, in their midst; people would take apparel, that is American made apparel, to their homes for non stop evening and night piece work.

But it didn’t work out as the Zionists had hoped. Howe says that once you have roots of any sort, it is hard to get you to leave.

This is an old book from the mid 70’s over 700 pages but it should be easy to find.
You will also pick up alot of the Yiddish phrases.

  • Hmm, hit on a point of sensitivity. Sorry about that Mobius, your parents will be left out of it in the future. 😉

  • Was listening to the Violent Femmes from the tender age of 9 due to the influence of some ubercool camp counselor. what exactly is it they’re doin round here?

  • Holy shit, IRB, Muffti first heard VF at camp as well, under the influnece of Dan Klug, ulra cool counselour.

  • IRB and Muffti, how do you think a yeshiva girl like me heard of VF? That’s right: summer camp. I was in total shock the first few times I heard their lyrics…

  • They were pretty darn scandalous in their day. I don’t think i got half (ok, All) the dirty birdy things they were saying until later on, but i Knew it was Bad, and so that was Good.

Man, but I do miss those early camp days, all the novelty in the exploration and the impression of some wise and sababa counselortypedude.

  • For those of you who haven’t been to camp:
(Josh, does this make J’licious more racy?)
ADD IT UP (by the violent femmes):

    Day after day
I will walk and I will play
    But the day after today
    I will stop
    and I will start

Why can’t I get just one kiss?
Why can’t I get just one kiss?
Believe me there’s some things that I wouldn’t miss
But I look at your pants and I need a kiss!

Why can’t I get just one screw?
Why can’t I get just one screw?
Believe me I know what to do!
But something won’t let me make love to you.

Why can’t I get just one fuck?
Why can’t I get just one fuck?
I guess it’s got something to do with luck!
But I waited my whole life for just one…

    Day after day
    I get angry
    And I will say
    That the day
    Is in my sight
    When I’ll take a bow
    and say goodnight.

Oh my my mymymy mo mo mum
Have you kept your eye, your eye on your son?
    I know you’ve had problems
    You’re not the only one
When your sugar left, he left you on the run.

Oh my my mymymy mo mo mum
Take a look now at what your boy has done
    He’s walkin’ around like he’s #1
He went downtown and he got him a gun.

So don’t shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
Don’t shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
You know you’ve got my sympathy
But don’t shoot shoot shoot that thing at me
    [repeat]

Broken down kitchen at the top of the stairs
Can I mix in with your affairs?
Share a smoke, make a joke
Grasp and reach for a leg of hope.

    Words to memorize
    Words hypnotize
    Words make my mouth exercise
Words all fail the magic prize
    Nothin’ I can say when
    I’m in your thighs

Mo my my mymymy mo my mother
I would love to love you, lover
City is restless, it’s ready to pounce
Here in your bedroom, ounce for ounce
    [repeat]

I’m givin’ you decision to make
Things to lose, things to take
Just as he’s about ready to cut it up
    She said,
“Wait a minute, honey, I’m gonna
    Add it up.”

    Oh
    Add it up!
    Add it up!
    Add it up!
    Add it up!
    [repeat]

    Day after day
    I get angry
    And I will say
    That the day
    Is within my sight
    When I’ll take a bow
    And say goodnight

    goodnight

  • Ahhh, I can almost smell the smore’s cookin on the fire, feel the scrape on my knee, hear the counselors’ call to the dining hall..

  • Yep, Muffti too. He remembers asking frequently ‘why can’t I get just one fuck?’

  • And we girlcampers remember such romantic questions with a combination of awe and disgust. Most of us were stuck at the first verse: “why can’t I get just one kiss…” In fact, some of us are still stuck there.

  • Awe? why awe?

Muffti’s trick was to leave camp and go to college. Maybe all the girlz should try that too!

  • …not to mention, E, that few guys who manage to get laid are so cold as to refuse a few kisses to their partner.

  • Oh, that’s the Violent Femmes! I know them well, and didn’t realize but know this song well, too.

Hey Muffti, from now on will you always post the song’s lyrics so we don’t have to guess about your post titles? Thanks.

  • No deal! Muffti’s readers are expected to do some work, such as:
    a) decoding his bad spelling
    and
    b) finding song where titles come from.
