A spokesman for Islam-Archiv-Deutschland Central Institute, the oldest Muslim body in Germany, dedicated to preserving the community’s archives since the eighteenth century and fostering relations between Muslims and other religions, has an interesting challenge for Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad. Basically, they are daring him to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp. “In this place of horror he can again deny the Holocaust, if he has the courage,” a spokesman for the Muslim organization told the German Catholic press agency KNA.

By denying the Holocaust, Ahmadinejad not only denigrated the Jewish victims of the genocide but also the 200,000 Roms and Arabs murdered in the “gypsy camp” of Auschwitz-Birkenau and other camps, the institute spokesman said. The fact that the president of an Islamic state repeated Nazi anti-Semitism was harmful to the image of Islam and “a disgrace for all the world’s Muslims”, he added.

The institute, founded in 1927, is the oldest Muslim body in Germany.

I would also invite President Ahmadinejad to deny the existence of the Holocaust in my presence. Such a move would indeed be brave, some might say foolhardy, especially since I may in all likelihood respond rather, uh… forcefully. With my boot. To his posterior region. Is it just me or is all this Muslim Holocaust denial cartoon shit just getting a little too… stupid to the point of being surreal?

  • It’s you, ck. This Holocaust denial cartoon shit has clear intentions and are part of a strategy by the Iranians. You don’t think the highest elected representative of a huge country like Iran gets up in the morning and keeps harping on the same topic just for the fun of it?

Either way, I think that we should try to get more Iranian readers. Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll send us some really good cartoons.

  • For the record, I think the accepted number of Roma killed was about 500,000.
It’s disconcerting to see an Islamic body try to not only diminish their loss, but claim that some of them were actually Arabs…

  • His facts may be a tad off but i still think props to him. It’s refreshing to hear a leader of a Muslim organization speak intelligently for a change.

  • Interesting stuff. What happened to the Institute between 1933 and ’45? What was their position re: Haj Amin el-Husseini and the “Hanjar (Saber) Division” of the Waffen SS?

  • 1) It’s Mahmoud not Mahmud
    2) He wouldn’t be able to visit Auschwitz because there are some censoring laws in some germanic countries which will put you in jail just for having a certain opinion about a historical phenomena. Ask Germar Rudolph, Ernst Zündel or David Irving to get an idea. You can even ask Hector Buela, an argentinian revisionist who won the first case against the Simon Wiesenthal Center, to get a wider perspective about it.

  • Auschwitz is in Poland, dude.

And you don’t go to prison for having an opinion in certain countries, you go to prison for voicing that opinion in the public sphere. The countries that tend to have these laws are…countries with Nazi or pro-Nazi governments in WWII. I guess they feel they need to police themselves. Maybe you should read something other than Zundel or David Irving websites to get a wider perspective?
