Whoever wasn’t there, simply wouldn’t understand

what do you know

Whoever was not there will simply not understand.

Whoever wasn’t there will simply not understand.
…Will not understand how we arrived–with 100% attendance–at the emergency warehouses in the North on Egged buses bursting with citizens wearing uniforms who came to fight for the promised land.

Whoever wasn’t there will not understand why we found a postcard from 1983 in our tactical vests. Where is all of the money for the emergency warehouses?

Whoever wasn’t there won’t understand why it is that soldiers with desk jobs have short rifles, when the combat soldiers were issued long rifles from the previous Lebanon war with which they were supposed to engage in urban warfare (which is exceedingly difficult without short rifles).

Whoever wasn’t there won’t understand how I saw with my own eyes 2500 hot meals thrown onto the road near Avivim, because the soldiers waited and waited for their dinner before going to battle, but some driver who stopped for a cigarette, caused the soldiers to go into Lebanon hungry.

Whoever wasn’t there won’t understand how we exited Lebanon after a night of incursions and slept in orchard fields because the secretaries of the kibbutzes would not allow us to sleep on the grass or in their locked bomb shelters. And then they ask why the soldiers were killed in the cemetery of Kfar Giladi! (How ironic, they were killed in a cemetery.)

Whoever wasn’t there won’t understand why we had our asses blown off with tens of anti-tank missiles, but we didn’t get approval to destroy homes in order to open up the terrain. And why do we have to eat one half of a roll for an entire day, because we can’t raze the Lebanese orchards to neutralize the threat and open the supply lines – because they are innocent?

I am not a right-winger, but whoever wasn’t there will not understand nor comprehend why this war was fought by kibbutznikim, the religious, and the whites and blacks (new olim and Sepharadim). Why a young officer who I met told me that he was the sole person among his friends from Ra’anana and Ramat haSharon who volunteered for combat duty.

Why do the daughter and wife of Olmert say that we are murderers.. and why, why God did you bring death among us?

Dear mothers, I am choked up, two of my friends were killed, and more were injured and will be handicapped forever, and I can scream…and hope that it will help.

Dear mothers, scream the screams of your sons who are now in their compulsory combat service… because no one will watch over them.

And don’t misunderstand me. We could have won, we are stronger, smarter, more ingenious… but someone messed up big time, and it wasn’t the small soldiers.

…In memory of the fallen, they will not return.

  • This is so beautiful and heartbreaking. Those poor soldiers, and the ones who gave their lives for such a pointless war.

It seemed like a joke when Olmert apointed Peretz, now it is a tragedy.

  • sorry guys, said the same thing twice i keep gettnig this word error so i didnt think it was said, sorry again

  • It is NOT ok to see over a 1000 lebanese dead, 1/3 of them being children. However, as Jews who have faced existential threats in the past, the deaths of many Jews is a reminder of how small and vulnerable we are.

  • Food4thought/Tom P/Jimmy/Jim/Re and all the other monikers you use: why do you post irrelevant and off-topic questions?

  • whos Tom P. Who’s Jimmy and Jim, and Who’s Re? I don’t know what your talking about and don’t really care. This forum is talking about the Israeli soldiers giving up their lives for this war going on and i’m asking why are people mourning for the Israelis and not the Lebanese. If you’re to stupid to see the connection then say so but it’s not irrelevant. Read the 10th comment it talks about the Israelis giving up their lives. Or does that have nothing to do with this topic either?

  • LMFAO themiddle is such a moron! Do you think everbody that wants to sympathize with the Lebanese are monikers of me? Anyway why haven’t you replied? Huh? Some guy put a site how the Israelis said its ok to steal food from the Lebanese towns if they need it, is that ok? themiddle, why don’t you just answer this? Tell me why is it ok for them to steal? If you’re not afraid and you think the Israelis are doing the right thing then answer, defend them, and if you can’t say so. It’s amazing how when i posted that comment you didn’t I mean couldn’t answer but when some guy talks about how the Lebanese should also be mentioned you talk. why? Because he hasn’t given you any points? Well that’s what I’m here for. Tell me themiddle, now! What justifies the attacks on the hospital? Why are israelis allowed to steal from the Lebanese shops? And remember when you said that the 4 UN peacekeepers never were killed by Israelis? I have the article, google it and you will find it. Now answer me those questions or shut up.

  • You fucking moron, every time you leave a comment you also leave your IP address, no matter what name or e-mail address you use. Although it’s easy enough to tell that Jimmy, food4thought, Samuel Smith, Tom P, John S, Jim, sdf, re, Rebecca are the same person even without checking the IP. Maybe you should consider changing your prose or punctuation for your multiple personalities, or waiting more than a few minutes between posting comments as different people – or did that not occur to you?

  • You seem a little upset Jimmy/Food4thought/Jim/Re etc., and you remain off-topic. Ever get the feeling you’re just not wanted?

  • Shoot I remember in my day they had so much cool stuff and equipemnt in the army. and food they would never leave people w/out a meal. I always thought they over did it dafka. w/ the food.

It is hard to say how accurate this is or not.

The thing is, the army always had this type of benign neglect policy that i thought was deliberate to make things tough on people so they would be mad and kill more enemy soldiers. So this issue is not so clear cut as one would think at first glance.,
Hey how do I meet y’all in Jaytown can we set up a meeting or something? I am now leaving soon for the holy land mon.

  • I like how Jimmy assumes that the blog owners have no possible countermeasures against his petty vandalism.

  • I would like to say to Hebrew American that I respectfully understand your point and I appreciate your comment

  • Where is this from – the link leads to a different ynet article? Or is this in the comments of that article?
