Near Times Square
So here I am. Forced to travel to the evil heart of Babylon (picking up our Jewlicious birthright israel participants on Dec. 31st out of New York) I snapped this pic outisde Penn Station near Times Square. I’ve already had sushi and sake with Kelsey where we talked about everything other than blogs and Jews. Did you know Kelsey has the 3rd largest Barbie Doll collection in the tri-state area? Neither did I! Did you also know that I am a total liar and ALL we talked about was Jews. And women who date men for a month but don’t give them their phone numbers. Hung out with our own Esther too on the Upper West Side and now I am heading off to see Ariel Beery. Woohoo! Tonight I am going to see Rob Tannenbaum’s show “Good For the Jews” at the Knitting Factory. Pics and review to follow, assuming Ariel’s place has Internet access [ed. note: it doesn’t]. Wish me luck!

  • NYC is definitely home to some of the most fascinating places /bars/ stuff and happenstancings on earth… “There is something in the New York air that makes sleep useless”Simone De Beauvoir

You picked the perfect season to visit, dont forget to check out the sparkly decorated houses in Bel Harbor (Queens) and Dyker Heights (Brooklyn) both have the most awesome christmas lights displays around.

“Women who date men for a month but dont give them their phone numbers”.
Are there woman out there that actually do that ? What a concept. Those same woman probally usually show up really late for stuff. I wonder if the men involved usually wait around.

  • All right, that’s it. Denizens of Jewlicious continue to neglect the already neglected Jews of the Midwest. (I am in no way denigrating what sounds like a great trip and an excellent opportunity for schmoozing and networking—-sort of the same thing but with subtle undertones). I think the Jewlicious crowd needs to come start some links in Jewish geography in the Midwestern United States. In fact, one of my own shul members has been at Pardes with her fiance for several months and is coming home to talk about the experience before she goes back. Any Jewlicious readers in the area are invited to the Latke Dinner in central IL and play Jewish geography with her (where you can also hear the regionalized LAHt-kuh, LAHt-key, Laat-key, laat-kuh debate). I really think professor Mufti needs to come visit, so I can lament doctoral education with him, but whatever.
(sorry, had a moment of “fly-over” jealousy about the great Jewish activities elsewhere—I’ll try to eradicate that feeling by doing something positive—–clicking on the Chicago Jewish Arts Festival site every day for the next two years in anticipation…..and it is almost four hours away…..or living vicariously through great Jewlicious posts—keep ’em coming!)

  • Speaking as one, I suggest that the Jews of the Midwest follow Golda Meir’s example (and my own) and move to Israel. The Jewish life is richer and the winters milder. Although the selection of beer and cheese is not nearly as generous.

  • What are you two midwestern bumpkins talking about? Steps away from our modest home in machane yehuda is a cheese shop with over 800 types of kosher cheeses, most imported from the cheese c enters of Europe. Not so much beer, true, but otherwise, we want for nothing!

  • And I want to add that there are plenty (all right, maybe two or three) of Jewlicious posters who are but a JetBlue flight away, so feel free to invite us (and one or two of our celebrity blogger friends) out for a Shabbat and we’ll fill your lives with cheer, fun and a crash course in what makes the Jewish internet so blogfabulous.

  • (Is anybody having a midnight Bal Masqué in gently-worn but interestingly accessorized bridesmaid’s gowns? The only catch is you have to get engaged by dawn. I think dawn is around 6 these days. Espresso available in small cups to keep you thinking clearly. Prizes for a small heel. Bigger prizes for a bigger heel. Please stay home if you already have children. I know I will. Stay home, I mean.)

Oh the engagement party, when the sun comes up over the roof tops…

  • Ziva and Michael:

Who’s neglecting the midwest? In fact, Good For The Jews is shlepping all the way out there in your mildest month, December, just to deliver your people from boredom.

Come see ck’s favorite funny/singing/Jewish duo:

  • Yeah! Midwestern Jews aren’t neglected!

Ziva, shoot me an email, I’m headed downstate for… well, for Christmas with my non-jewish family. But there are things going on. Check out the KFAR Center and Jewish Fringe.

  • Cool, thanks, guys. I need to get to Chicago more, but it is several hours away—-I live in between two places that are good for the Jews—-3 to 4 hours away from Chicago and Indianapolis. Here is the open invite: anyone near Decatur, IL and Temple B’nai Abraham, give a holler and we’ll put you up for Shabbat.

  • Hahahahahah, I don’t get time to check the bios of everyone who writes in to Jewlicious, but I may have to: Leah went to school at Millikin, a school about block away from my synagogue and five miles away from my house! Yay, the midwest Jews!
