Jewish author Nelso Algren brought to life the seedy underbelly of Chicago’s demimonde in his 1950 National Book Award winning novel, The Man With the Golden Arm. This was a world inhabited by drunks, pimps, prostitutes, freaks, drug addicts and hoodlums. Nelson Algren’s spirit is alive and well in this latest video by Eric Schwartz, aka Smooth-E aka Suburban Homeboy who explores the dark side of Chanukah – the world of the dreidel junkie, hopped up on greasy latkes and chocoloate coins. Sad, disturbing… let this serve as a warning to you all – even during the festival of lights, there is some darkness to be found.
