Okay, I’m half kidding. I think these are anemones and they flower beautifully in Israel. I don’t have a link but this photo was published at Ynet.com and the photographer is Tsafrir Corcia.

  • They are called Calaniot in Hebrew, and are protected flowers, so don’t pick ’em!

  • It is well known that when there are many of these flowers together their odor is so powerful that anyone who breathes it falls asleep, and if the sleeper is not carried away from the scent of the flowers, he sleeps on and on forever. They are especially prevalent on the way to The Emerald City.

  • My Israeli mother (trust the sabra!) has informed me that they are most likely poppies, called p’ragim in Hebrew. Kalaniot don’t blanket the ground like that, they’re in smaller clusters.
