shay.jpgWe reported about this lovely young Israeli-American last year during the NCAA Women’s tournament. Shay Doron’s team, Maryland, ended up winning the national championship and she was unquestionably one of the more significant contributors to their championship season. This year the tournament didn’t go as well for the Terrapins and they were ousted in the second round.

Shay is about to graduate from Maryland, apparently doing pretty well in classes having been voted Academic All American a third time in her 4 years of playing at the college level. Then again, she may not need to use her degree to find a job for some time having been drafted by her home team, the WNBA’s New York Liberty, with the 16th pick in this year’s draft. I’m sure this is a dream come true for this young woman whose family (father was a decathelete and mother was on Israel’s national volleyball team) moved to the US to facilitate her development as an athlete. We are expecting her WNBA vegas odds to be very strong as she continues to develop at the game!

Congratulations to the Jewlicious Shay Doron!

  • I am surprised that the WNBA hasn’t folded yet. Went to one game and boy was it dull.

  • Ariel, not yet. She’s only drafted at this point and still has to make the team – although her chances are good because they traded their all-star guard for a new center. There were also two Israeli men drafted in the men’s second round just a couple of months ago and they won’t get a shot at playing for at least another year. Her chances seem better.

  • Hey Jack – You went to ONE game? And you judge? The last NBA game I went to was pretty damn boring. By your logic, the NBA should fold, too. Or…perhaps you should consider the origin of your misogyny? Did some girl beat you at one-on-one once? Does your wife make more money than you? Why are you threatened by women playing sports? If you find WNBA games boring, DON’T WATCH. I’m sure there’s a Nascar race somewhere you can tune into.
