Actor Sacha Baron Cohen aka Borat is slated to play Freddie Mercury in a film biopic of the former Queen frontman’s life. The brilliant and talented Mercury died in 1991 from AIDS. We hear the Oscar/Golden Globes buzz circulating already. Hey, it wouldn’t be the first time an actor portraying a singer was honored in the past few years. It’s been known to happen once or twice.

Yes, by the time 1991 rolled around, Freddie Mercury was besieged by an entire legion of “AIDs,” leading to the popular schoolyard chant “Hey, hey, big hairy Freddie / how many AIDs you got in your belly / one, two, one, two / and Brian May looks like a Jew.”
It could have been worse, though. At least Mr. Mercury wasn’t taken from us by AID’s, a much more rapidly possessing disorder.
To say nothing of AIDS.
As a former member of the Official Queen Fan Club- I am not happy about this development.
