ilana.jpgIlana Donna is an online video guru for The Associated Press and runs her own site, Downtown Diary, dedicated to the trials and tribulations of NYC life.

Ilana’s SJPisms on daily life are a tad reminiscent of those “Sex & The City” days, especially her vlog post dedicated to online dating. It doesn’t hurt that this gal’s mane is to die for and bears a striking resemblance to you-know-you. Ilana has been featured on Beet.TV and even the Food Network(!).

Below is Ilana’s most recent work – a pop culture take on “A Mighty Heart” that first appeared here. Be sure to visit the site for more Ilana. Enjoy!

  • I just need a place to say this: This August will be the 5th year Anniversary of my divorce and 4 years of dating. I have probably dated about 40 guys over the years. Of those, only three are no longer dating online. One who dumped me last April who I really liked…back on line today; one who dumped me 3 years ago who I really liked…still up; one who dumped me 4 years ago who I really liked…still up… you get the picture. The three that took their profiles down…2 I know aren’t married and one I think died from drinking liquids not meant for human consumption. The rest…every single one of them…still blinking their faces on the internet.

So whatever…thanks for the air space.

  • Chutzpah,
I dated online for about 6 years (on and off) before I met my husband and I encountered some of the same issues. Honestly, the best and most accurate response I can speak to this stuff is: It’s not you, it’s them.

    For what it’s worth.

Now back to Ilana Donna. Me likey.

  • Yes…her hair is amazing!!! That looks to me like a triple color process done with foils on natural curls, which is expensive to do and hard to maintain. I hope she’ll do a clip on her colorist and favorite salon!!!

The whole “sex in the city” thing has been done & redone too many times by too many people, but the fact that it’s a Vlog makes it fresher.

The clip on Mighty Heart was cute. That movie is one which I’ll wait to see at home on DVD on a night I want to cry my eyes out…for Summer I’ll stick to animated cooking rats.

  • I want to see animated cooking rats. Looking forward to seeing Ratatouille. Went and saw “Evan Almighty” and it was royal drag.

  • Nothring terribly new or unique about her, and frankly, my hair is better. That, i’m just jealous that she gets all the attention…

  • I beg to differ Ofri. I found the host of The Resident to be loud and obnoxious and not particularly witty. Give me content baby!

  • That’s just it, Beth. Where’s the content? I’m willing to grant that the quality (or lack thereof) of the interviewees can’t be all the host’s fault, but did we really need to see the vile frat boy making tasteless remarks about Angelina Jolie? As for Ilana, she could have given a slightly more substantive assessment of the movie.
The online dating video was a lot better, I’ll give her that much.
As for the resident, she’s got hits and misses like anyone else. Perhaps she’s an acquired taste, but I really like her stuff. Another thing I really like about her videos is the diversity of people she talks to, and that’s not something I’m seeing with Ilana so far. Alack. We can agree to disagree.

  • Ofri,
I appreciate the constructive criticism. Frat boys are always annoying as a rule of thumb but I also think the point of the video was to keep it light and entertaining and within the context of such a subject as “A Mighty Heart,” that was no easy feat.

  • THAT’S MY GOOD LOOKING COUS, SO ALL YOU MEN, BE NICE, CA– USE YOU DO NOT WANT TO MEET ME FACE TO FACE…ALL IT TAKES IS ONE PHONE CALL FROM HER AND YOU MAY HAVE A BIG PROBLEM…
