…since he really thinks this woman should be ignored completely rather than actually listened to or spoken about. But since you’ll probably see this everywhere anyways, probably Muffti is doing no harm. He doesn’t find it very offensive; certainly less offensive than most of the other thing this awful woman has said. But judge for yourself. Or do the right thing and ignore her: people who need attention are one of the few things out there that really do go away if you just act as though they don’t exist.

  • If you extend her “Xtians are perfected Jews” mess, it follows that Muslims are perfected Xtians, and therefore Coulter would be impelled by her own bad logic to convert to Islam (horrors!). No worries of that happening; we’ve got enough nutjobs on TV- no need to draft another onto the Muslim team.

  • I’v tried to comment a couple of times (comment 3844) and it is spitting out an error, or saying it’s spam, or some wordpress error. did you guys get it?

  • Hmmm, Blondie’s got an Adam’s apple . . . and no serious knowledge of Christianity. Blondie’s (still indecisive about the gender – look at those hands) statement’s are sectarian. In addition, Blondie’s voice makes my ears hurt.

  • statements*

Eric, I’ve encountered the same problem. First I received a WordPress-message stating I was posting too quickly, then I received gibberish script.

  • As a Ger coming from a Christian background, I can say that this is the way a large number of Christians view Jews; as a people in need of perfection.

I think Mufti is correct, the best thing to do is to ignore this ludicrous spectacle of a woman. Her shtick, as Deutsch himself notes with the graphic is to shock her way to millions (despite having a tenuous at best grasp of the issues). The best way to get her to leave us all alone is to simple ignore her!

That being said, I actually feel sad for her in a sense. Deutsch asks her what her perfect America is like and she immediately outs herself as a bigot without a clue (again). Good for him for standing up to her and putting her on the defensive, but shame on him for even giving her a pulpit to shock from.

  • Forget it. That’s the last time I try posting here with this jank implementation of WordPress.

Basically my rant had to do with using a dirty source run by a dirty Soros to expose other hypocrisy. And that I can;t for the life of me, relate to most American Jews, who I feel are still living in the sixties. Ah, nevermind…

  • i have no words for this. that anyone would so blatantly address replacement theology and expect the jewish man sitting across from her not to get offended.

  • October is “Watch WordPress Ruin ck’s trip Month” – things are messing up all over. What is a “jank implementation??” Some friggin guru I turned out to be.

  • Basically my rant had to do with using a dirty source run by a dirty Soros to expose other hypocrisy. And that I can;t for the life of me, relate to most American Jews, who I feel are still living in the sixties.

Ahhh, fuck!! To think I missed out on that nugget of wisdom. That’s just not fair; I mean, you obviously have so much to teach us American Jews. Please don’t give up now.

  • Coulter may be an ugly, bigoted, emaciated cunt with an Adam’s apple, but at least she’s honest about Christian beliefs.

Of course, what she says IS offensive to Jews, and it’s typical of people like her to be oblivious to that. But what she says is strictly standard, run-of-the mill Christian theology. But we should know this stuff by now. Why do we get our knickers in a twist everyt time a Christian lets the mask slip and says what they really think?

After all, how many Jews do you know who don’t laugh up their sleeves at what we see as Christian narrischkeit?

    Right.

    I thought so.

Tom, what’s the Catholic position on this? After all, Coulter is just some damned Protestant, right?

Actually, somehting just occurred to me: I met a Catholic woman who didn’t think Protestants were really Christians. What’s the Church’s official take on it?

  • Sorry. I got heated after seeing MediaMatters (nice) as your source, writing 4 paragraphs objecting to it, and then repeatedly trying to enter the same comment 6 or 7 times. As a person completely dependent on technology day to day, I get “tech rage” I guess. Problem is, it’s not a one-time occurrence here. I’d be more than happy to help if I can make it up to you.

Listen, I don’t want to ruffle feathers here, which I seem to do anytime I comment, but I’d hate to see this place as some echo-chamber.

Media Matters is dirty. Ann Coulter is dirty. Using one against the other, IMO, cancels these things out.

And what’s to be offended about really? Are we not confident in what we believe? Am I to be shocked that Evangelical Christians think all Jews should convert? Really? I mean Really?? (Sorry, SNL tip)

Look, I like myself, my family, my people, it’s faith, more than any one or any other religion on earth and I’m not ashamed to believe or admit that. So what? So this controversial talking head is out promoting her book, and she knows that Donny is there to help, and she does what she does best. If you’re that offended, you must not debate Christians much. So there are Christians in my family through marriage that think I won’t go to heaven if I don’t accept Jesus. Do I give a flying f? No. I have a restraining order ready if they decide to come to my death bed though. πŸ™‚ Let them stay up at night praying for me, I don;t have that kind of time.

Anyway, I’m ranting again, when my real point is to have some of your readers here go over and read Omri’s post about this and discuss since you can’t there:

    http://www.mererhetoric.com/archives/11274280.html

I think the real issue here, is Media Matters and this stifling of free speech I hear about from the left all day, but actually happening to conservative pundits. This is what the march to the Fairness Doctrine looks like, and the fascism everyone thinks we currently live in.

Thanks for your time and your not-too-janky WP site.

  • I said most, david. You may just not be that important. But feel free to take the mantel. I’m not here to teach anything.

  • Ann Coulter says that ‘we’ Christians must ‘perfect Jews’.

    Wed, Oct 10, 2007 4:30pm ET

Send to a friend Print Version
On CNBC’s The Big Idea, Coulter said that “we” Christians “just want Jews to be perfected”

During the October 8 edition of CNBC’s The Big Idea, host Donny Deutsch asked right-wing pundit Ann Coulter: “If you had your way … and your dreams, which are genuine, came true … what would this country look like?” Coulter responded, “It would look like New York City during the [2004] Republican National Convention. In fact, that’s what I think heaven is going to look like.” She described the convention as follows: “People were happy. They’re Christian. They’re tolerant. They defend America.” Deutsch then asked, “It would be better if we were all Christian?” to which Coulter responded, “Yes.” Later in the discussion, Deutsch said to her: “[Y]ou said we should throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians,” and Coulter again replied, “Yes.” When pressed by Deutsch regarding whether she wanted to be like “the head of Iran” and “wipe Israel off the Earth,” Coulter stated: “No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. … That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws.”

After a commercial break, Deutsch said that “Ann said she wanted to explain her last comment,” and asked her, “So you don’t think that was offensive?” Coulter responded: “No. I’m sorry. It is not intended to be. I don’t think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe — this is just a statement of what the New Testament is — is that that’s why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don’t believe our testament.” Coulter later said: “We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all.”

An October 4 report on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition about evangelical Christian support for Israel featured Gershom Gorenberg, an author and associate scholar at Boston University’s Center for Millennial Studies, as saying that many evangelical Christians want Jews to convert to Christianity. “That vision is one in which the Jews eventually disappear,” Gorenberg said. “And if you say that at the end of days, in a perfected world there aren’t going to be any more Jews, what you’re saying is that right now, you don’t accept the legitimacy of Judaism.”

Coulter’s comments about religion were noted by the blog WhiteHouser.

Coulter also asserted during the interview: “I give all of these speeches at megachurches across America, and the one thing that’s really striking about it is how utterly, completely diverse they are, and completely un-self-consciously. You walk past a mixed-race couple in New York, and it’s like they have a chip on their shoulder. They’re just waiting for somebody to say something, as if anybody would.” She went on to state that “there was an entire Seinfeld episode about Elaine and her boyfriend dating because they wanted to be a mixed-race couple” and that “I think that’s reflective of what’s going on in the culture.”

As Media Matters for America documented, Coulter has been interviewed at least 194 times on at least 13 individual programs on MSNBC, CNBC, and NBC since April 28, 1997 — apparently her first appearance on the network. Media Matters also noted that Coulter, when interviewed by Deutsch on the July 26, 2006, edition of The Big Idea, said that former President Bill Clinton exhibits “some level of latent homosexuality.” Earlier that day, MSNBC had hyped the interview as “must-see TV.”

From the October 8 edition of CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch:…”

  • ck — perhaps if you had chosen a more holy environment WordPress would not be keeping you glued to your computer. As it is, at least it is keeping you away from the avodah zarah. Next time: Alaska. Low on AZ, high on views. You’re sites will work like clockwork….

  • The face that Ann Coulter is given any time in the press as a “pundit” is just another sign of the degraded state of our culture. She doesn’t believe a word that comes out of her mouth; she’s simply playing a character because it’s all theatre, anyway. Why not make millions?

  • The best part was when she used Seinfeld (Jewish!) as a serious proof of her point :O

  • I’m not offended by the concept. It doesn’t sound very nice, but it is what it is. Christians genuinely believe we need to be “saved”. Thanks for trying, but I’ll pass-which was the response I gave MY BOSS (although I put it much nicer, since Title VII protections are sort of BS) last week when he wanted to bring me some tapes about Jews for Jesus (his Bible Church is a sponsor). I DO understand their religious obligation to “save” me, I just really prefer the people who ‘witness through their lives’-it’s much easier to ignore. More to the point-I hate this example because Ann Coulter said it-and I hate her. If she were talking about how nice daisies and butterflies are I’d then have to swear off of them, too.
We’ll, of course, ignore all ironies about “Christian” behaviors of kindness, turning the other cheek, mercy, etc-and, well WHO ANN COULTER IS-because it’s pointless.

  • Ann Coulter is an idiot. Now that that is out of the way:

I didn’t find anything she said about her Christian beliefs to be offensive. Can we forget that Jews find idolatry to be repugnant, and believe that they should stop their practices? So she believes something different than us. She didn’t go off unfairly on Israel or the Jews as an ethnicity. She just has a different theological viewpoint. She was asked directly about them, and answered the question honestly. What is the problem? Are people not allowed to have opinions about our religion?

  • Eric, Muffti agrees that what she said was pretty stupid but not very offensive or interesting.

    Why is Media Matters dirty?

  • Muffti,

Bias of the link below notwithstanding, the facts of the connections of funding have been exposed and are facts. Media Matters is a George Soros funded tool to smear conservative media, pundits, and speech. As if they need a tool, what with CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, ABC, NPR/PBS, etc. already doing their part.

    http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7150

Honestly, for me, its not even about politics, its about principle, and I, as a Jew, don’t want to be associated with George Soros in any way, shape, or form. I find him a disgusting human being, anti-American, anti-Israel, and at times, anti-Semitic. If you want to talk threats to America, start with Soros’ “buying of the Democratic Party”, and then run through his many filthy deeds.

    http://dir.salon.com/story/tech/books/2002/02/28/soros/

If the Democrats want accountability in government, transparency, and to battle corruption, the first thing they should do is distance themselves form Soros in a hustle.

Plenty of dirt on Soros from a political perspective from here:
    http://hotair.com/?s=soros

Honestly, if your source had been youtube or some news channel, I wouldn’t have even gone off on this topic, but as the link at mererhetoric.com pointed out… A new day, another media matters smear campaign.

I can’t stand Ann Coulter, but as a conservative leaning centrist, media matters did little to convince me that the right has as many anti-Semites on it as the left, like the likes of Kucinich, Sharpton, Carter, and that idiot African-American woman from Georgia whose name I thankfully forgot.

  • Ephraim, I can also fill you in on the Catholic position: while all Chritians believe that the gospels go mean continuity complementing the Torah, the Roman Catholic Epistolic Church (its official title) has officially exempted Jews from missionary attempts and honours their position as the chosen people / bearers of the covenant, abolished the teachings that claim Jews murdered Jesus / god. Cf. Nostra Aetate 4:

  • Longtime lurker, rare commenter:

What offended me was the implication that Jews are less than, which is different from our beliefs about goyim…oh, wait a second. Nevermind. I stand by my offended…ness? -icity? -ism?

Also, the whole “stifling free speech” nonsense is, well, nonsense. Freedom of speech can’t be impinged by the GOVERNMENT, the Constitution says nothing about private censorship. /end pet peeve rant

Whatever you think of what she said, it sounded to me like she believed it, as opposed to other bat-shit crazy things she’s said, when sometimes it seems she’s just trying to get a response.

  • Sarah – as a former Catholic with a good view of the happenings of the Church, you are correct. However, we can expect those views to change as this Pope continues to discreetly overturn Vatican II rulings.

  • Brian, my background’s mixed. My father’s a Catholic theologian (over here, theology rather equals to religious studies in the USA), and I’ve studied theology (among other subjects) myself as this is the only way over here to study about Judaism in an academic environment and from an academic point-of-view . It was Joseph Ratzinger that started the move to exempt Jews from missionary activities. In his times as a professor at Bonn university, he was known for being rather progressive. His background in academia and hence academic discourse is not necessarily the worst to relate to (just consider that in contrast to his predecessor, he explicitly ordered that child abusers within the clergy are to be subject to the secular law of the land they’re located in). Re-enabling masses to be held in Latin isn’t necessarily bad either – I doubt most congregants seriously understand masses held in their respective native tongues. It would only be worrisome if Latin masses were imposed upon people. Anyhow, this is not the place to discuss changes in Catholic liturgy. Ratzinger / Benedikt XI. / Papa Ratzi, however, is widely appreciated of in the German Jewish community, and his scholarly approach to matters is considered easier to fathom than John Paul II.’s spiritually-motivated decisions based on an extremely conservative type of Catholicism as is typical of Poland and the organization ‘Opus Dei’ of which he was a member.

  • ‘Freedom of speech canÒ€ℒt be impinged by the GOVERNMENT, the Constitution says nothing about private censorship.”

I completely agree that it’s up to the private enterprise to decide what they use for content. So please help allay my fears about the Fairness Doctrine, which has been attempted to be pushed through congress by Democrats and targeting conservative radio.

Sure, I’ll miss Medved, Prager, Savage, but only if you promise I’ll never have to hear Amy Goodman and Teri Gross’ self righteous voices again as well. What’s good for the goose….

  • Sarah:

I cannot read the monkish letters, so I will take your word for it πŸ˜‰

  • Ephraim, I could have posted the English version, but I like when TM tries to translate Latin into English. πŸ˜‰
