Ban ki-Moon: Israel using excessive force
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday urged Israel to stop using “disproportionate and excessive force” against the Palestinians.
“Israel’s disproportionate and excessive use of force has killed and injured many civilians including children … I condemn these actions and call on Israel to cease such acts,” Ban told the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)summit in Senegal’s capital Dakar.
Earlier at the summit, Senegal’s president and the new OIC chairman, Abdoulaye Wade, said he would make solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a priority for the organization.
“The just and legitimate cause of Palestine remains at the heart of our concerns,” Wade told the leaders of dozens of Islamic nations who attended the two-day summit of the world’s largest Muslim group.
Wade called Israel “an occupying power” and urged its government to “immediately stop its disproportionate use of force.”

Over 20 Kassams pound western Negev
Approximately 25 Kassam rockets hit the western Negev on Thursday, shattering a period of relative calm during which the IDF refrained from conducting operations in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian gunmen largely kept from launching attacks against Israel.
Three of the rockets landed in Sderot, one hitting a warehouse and sending a woman into shock. The other rockets landed in open areas nearby.

“Our people in east Jerusalem face a plan for ethnic cleansing [as a result of] a series of Israeli decisions such as heavier taxes, building restrictions and the closing of Palestinian institutions, in addition to the city’s separation from the West Bank with the racist separation fence,” he stated.
Palestinians expect Israel to meet “commitments to put an end to its aggressions and settlements expansion,” Abbas said. “Yet what is taking place on the ground today is totally in violation of that.”

Sapir College rally relocated for fear of rocket fire
The National Students’ Union’s plan to hold a solidarity rally with Sderot and the Gaza vicinity communities nearly fell through Thursday, after the rocket salvo which hit the area Wednesday prompted the Home Front Command to recommend the event be cancelled for security reasons.
The rally was originally supposed to take place in Jerusalem, with students from all over Israel taking part in it; but the dealy attack on the capital’s Mercaz Harav yeshiva and the high state of alert which followed, had police recommend the event be held at a deferent venue.
The National Students’ Union than decided to hold the rally at the Sapir College plaza, but the Home Front Command was less than enthused, fearing another Qassam strike in the area.
Of course, that came out after Abbas compared the killing by the IDF of 5 terrorists to the Nazi Holocaust and to a barbaric action.
Somehow I find this is the reason no one really cares what the UN says anymore. It’s unfortunate, but until the UN realizes what the situation is and possibly considers that Israel is consistently attacked first, it’s hard for me to care about the UN’s “condemnation.”
