Today will be a black day in the history of Israel. Let’s hope people can get past petty differences and that we’ll be able to unite as a nation and as a people and unequivocally condemn this insane, cowardly and heinous attack. I’m nauseous and my sympathies go out to the victims, their families, friends and loved ones.

  • wow, this is so incredibly disturbing. and in tel aviv, too :/

i hope that man is punished to the full extent of the law.

  • In some sort of way, I REALLY hope this was a mob hit, because if it weren’t, then “sinat chinam” is going to get worse.

  • I’m with CK on this one.
You pretty much summed up exactly how I feel.

I’d like to make two clarifications:

    1.
The use of the word “club” might be confusing to some.
CK’s header is spot on: The shooting took place in Tel Aviv’s Gay and Lesbian Association’s building, in a basement room where gay teenagers were holding their weekly support group. There was nothing gangland related about this whatsoever. The Assassin knew exactly where he was going and who he was targeting.

    2.
Since this is was a weekly meeting for teens most of the wounded were minors, as was one of the casualties.

Lord knows I’m a cynic but had you told me yesterday something like this could happen in Israel I would have said “never”. The last time I felt this way was in 1995 after Rabin was assassinated.

  • Mike, I also though it could never happen in T”A. But homophobic attacks happen quite often in Israel. The Israeli society isn’t very tolerant to GBLTs, only Tel Aviv is.

  • This makes me physically ill, what a shame. My prayers are with the victims and their families.

  • First, and most important, I’m also with CK on this one.

Also, it’s a pity the storytellers of the Jewish world don’t feel this is newsworthy.

Oh wait, sorry about that, it’s Sunday. Doesn’t matter this horrible murder was about 18 hours ago.

Someone should tell Mark Joffe to amend his most recent missive: “Backed by the comprehensive, global reporting of JTA…” to as long as the story happens during the New York business week….

  • p.s.

The New York Times had the story “above the fold” on their Website at 5:46 p.m. EDT yesterday.

  • There are sick people out there. Mentally ill people. And they do terrible things.

My condolences to the families of the victims – and prayers to those who were injured.

  • Yeah, the use of the word “club” was a bit confusing. Now that you qualified it, I have to say it’s definitely a hate crime, not a mob hit.

  • I would be more sympathetic if the GLBT community – and the media – had not immediately begun a shrill anti-religious campaign, before we even know who did this.
As Mike points out, it is likely to be someone already connected with the center, who knows the schedule.

When calls for “tolerance” are mixed with such strong messages of hate and stereotyping of others – my Ironic Bullshit Detector starts beeping.

So the people who usually tell The Rest of Us to “not rush to judgment” after Pali terror attacks – now rush headlong into judgment, condemnation, and demonization.

It must be wonderful to always be right…

  • We at Shalom International and http://www.defendjerusalem.net strongly condemn this heinous act and our prayers are with the victims families. Many of us are religious and killing is forbidden by the Torah. Real Jews don’t kill other Jews and real Jews don’t divide Israel and Jerusalem for politics either.
