We’re not really good at contests here at Jewlicious. We just give stuff away and we don’t ask you to do silly things like write a soul searching essay or eat hot dogs or send us naked photos of your girlfriend (Though feel free to do so anyway). So what do we have to give away today? Well… I guess the title of this post gave it away. Here’s the trailer, details of our lame-o contest after the bump.

So basically, Focus Features has given us 5 pairs of tickets for the premiere of A Serious Man in New York on September 24th! In attendance will be writer/directors Joel & Ethan Coen, and stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Richard Kind, Sari Lennick, Adam Arkin and Fyvush Finkel. Winners will have to pick up their tickets by 6:30 pm on the night of the premiere. Enter to win a pair of tickets to the premiere now!

And how do you enter? Easy! Send an email to [email protected] and we’ll randomly pick 5 winners on Tuesday. Please only enter if you can make it to the show and make sure to include your full name in the email as they will be checking for IDs in case you win. That’s it. That’s all we need. I’ll be picking 5 winners at random from those of you who have sent in emails by Tuesday at 2pm EST. You’ll be informed via email about the location of the event and all other relevant details.

“A Serious Man” is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and “F-Troop” is on TV. It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous colleagues, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolf) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job. While his wife and Sy Ableman blithely make new domestic arrangements, and his brother becomes more and more of a burden, an anonymous hostile letter-writer is trying to sabotage Larry’s chances for tenure at the university. Also, a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade while at the same time threatening to sue him for defamation. Plus, the beautiful woman next door torments him by sunbathing nude. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man? This premiere is very timely as it will be occurring during the 10 days of Repentance between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur when issues relating to redemption and righteousness are on the minds of many Jews. And the Coen brothers are always good for a laugh, so how great would it be to use this as a segue into Yom Kippur?

A Serious Man opens in select theatres on October 2nd.

Oh and please, do NOT send us naked photos of your girlfriend. I was kidding about that.

  • Darn, I’ll be in New York next month. I’ll have to see if any clients want me there sooner.

The timing couldn’t be better though I just finished watching Miller’s Crossing before logging on.

  • Hi Ck,

Let’s give out 4 JMatch.com premium memberships, to the people who did not win this time around (and are single of course) – Perhaps they can find the love of their life 😉

  • I can’t make it, but can I write in for my sister and bro-in-law?

  • Yes you can Jason. Just make sure they can make it if they win. Don’t wanna waste these puppies…

  • I would love to see the Coen Brothers new film. However, I am stuck in the Jerusalem of Lithuania trying to create a new Jewish library.

  • hopefully they put a chassidish rabbi in this movie!
