I don’t know….I think I just wrote that title to grab your attention. I hate when writers compare lesser known stuff to bigger more popular things just so that it could get the attention that it deserves. After you watch this video, you will see that no comparison is needed for Miss Yael Naim to hold any sort of importance. Its brilliant because the video is so amazingly artistic and original. One of those ideas that you slap yourself for not having, but the song is also so great. If only because its chalk full of cliche’s but you don’t have to feel guilty for liking it. It just feels real and its come at the perfect time because, yes oh yes, just as Amy Winehouse has proved. Its not time for some soul.

  • I’d compare her more to Norah Jones.

I like how she rymes “hand” and “understand” with end.

  • ck, depends on what your gauge is, but it’s ok; I’m bugging out.

  • Oh fuck that. That’s all we need. Le Président and Yael. Sheesh. And froylein – better? Different, yeah – but why judge? They’re different, both are good. One needs to lay off the juice a little…

  • Too bad le President de la Republique is already taken. Then again, if Carla doesn’t work out….

  • This lady is way better than Amy Winehouse. (And her accent is endearing.) Thanks, DJ Handler!

  • ack said: “not musically or lyrically creative at all.”

Does that matter? The song’s fun! If I restricted myself to only music that was musically and lyrically creative then all i’d be able to listen to is Frank Zappa – which wouldn’t be the end of the world but I think it would get a bit dull.

In any case, I disagree. Yael is awesome.

  • her song ‘new soul’ is fun and nice, but not musically or lyrically creative at all.

  • Heh. I knew Yael Naim was gonna make it big. You can’t buy a Yael Naim CD in Israel, but because New Soul was featured in the MacBook Air commercial, New Soul had the most iTunes downloads for the week of February 6th. Her second self-titled album contains a number of gems beyond New Soul, like Paris a tribute to the city sung in Hebrew which I first heard last year while listening to Radio Nova online. Let me make this clear again – she’s mad popular in France and she sings her songs in French, English and HEBREW. Talk about improbable! Kudos to the people at Apple for recognizing talent!
