Event you may not want to miss in NYC if you are obsessed by the campaign.
New Voices Presents: Blacks, Jews, and the Post-Racial Candidate
Wednesday, May 28th, from 7-9 pm at 15 West 16th Street in Manhattan.
Three leading journalists discuss the Jewish response to Barack Obama’s candidacy, and what it tells us about the state of the relationship between African-Americans and Jews. With Ari Berman (The Nation), Ta-Nehisi Coates (Village Voice and The Atlantic Monthly) and Sam Freedman (Columbia University and the New York Times). The discussion will be moderated by Marissa Brostoff (The Forward). Presented by New Voices, the independent Jewish student magazine.
A dessert reception will follow. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Buy now at: https://www.smarttix.com/show.aspx?showCode=BLA49
The new issue of New Voices can be found at their website newvoices.org and contains an article about the brouhaha at UCI. The article is well written in fact and interviews are aplenty – however one or two important voices on the issue are left out. The other articles in the issue are great, and for very personal reasons: a profile of Cory Booker, who I knew from my days in Oxford, Jonathan Richman, of one my high school musical idols (along with Billy Brag), and some other interesting tid bits hear and there. New Voices has come so far it is really remarkable achievement. With high turnover for student journalists and a low budget, they manage to keep you reading, and get these issues to campuses across the country.
BTW Free print subscriptions available for students. Email [email protected] for details.

No doubt bin Laden does what he does out of selfless concern for the Palestinians. And no doubt, if only Israel would fork over some land after helpful American prodding, jihadist terror would cease altogether.
Can you imagine the Harry Truman of 1948 speaking in such a manner?
While Obama has a tin ear to end all tin ears, I think what he says is objectively true: lack of a solution to the “Palestinian problem” does give jihadists “an excuse” to engage in “inexcusable actions” (just can’t bring yourself to come out and say “terrorism”, huh, Barry?).
Of course, that is precisely why the jihadists want to make sure the “sore” continues to fester.
The question then becomes: so what now? Who’s to blame for the lack of a solution? What should be done?
Why, blame the Jews, of course! Everybody knows that trying to pressure the Arabs doesn’t work (since they don’t give a rat’s ass what the kuffars think of them), but that the Jews are more reasonable (since we’re kind of like Sally Fields and want the gentiles to really, really like us), so if we want progress towards a solution, the only answer is to turn the screws on Israel.
Oh, yeah, the other reason I’m not voting for Obama: Zbignew Brzezinski.
Ouch!
That was generally a painful but interesting article to read by Goldberg. That it came just a couple of weeks before that horribly slanted New Yorker article by Jane Kramer about Nadia Abu el Haj just added to the bad taste in the mouth.
Check this out, courtesy of Atlantic magazine:
Q: Jeff Goldberg:— Do you think that Israel is a drag on America’s reputation overseas?
A: Obama: — No, no, no. But what I think is that this constant wound, that this constant sore, does infect all of our foreign policy. The lack of a resolution to this problem provides an excuse for anti-American militant jihadists to engage in inexcusable actions.
Seriously? What about all of the WASPs?
Also: Colt 45s?
I thought you guys drank poteen (or Jameson’s or Bushmill’s when you can afford it).
Campaign ’08 divides the electorate into the following categories: blacks, Jews, Latinos, and everyone else, referred to as Catholic.
A Catholic, then, is a typical white person who is not Jewish.
(Now, excuse me while I stash some Colt 45s for my next shift at the coal mine.)
He has a Catholic problem?
Are the people he insulted about G-d and guns Catholic?
I’ll be on the Obama’s-Catholic-Problem panel.
Well, that’s quite a compliment, Tom.
Of course, I wouldn’t make it out of the room alive.
The dessert reception sounds good, though. Will they have strudel?
I’d go if Ephraim were on the panel.
