Avishai Mekonen (avishaimekonen.com)
A New York based photographer and film maker who grew up in Israel came to our attention by virtue of his involvement with the 6 Point Fellowship for emerging young artists. The project was called Seven Generations which is about the dieing oral history of the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel. The project focuses on the growing disconnection between traditional parents and their newly Israeli children. The photography and video installation gained attention because of its use of Hebrew hip hop and has been presented by Avishai on campuses and community centers across the US.

His latest work is the film 400 Miles to Freedom, set to be released in 2011. The film is about Jewish diversity and his own personal journey from Ethiopia to Israel.
