Since as early as 2008, Ben & Jerry’s in Israel has been producing a Kosher for Passover Charoset flavored ice cream. Charoset is one of the food items traditionally placed on seder plates by Jews around the world. The Ashkenazi variety is typically a paste made up of apples, nuts, wine and cinnamon meant to represent the mortar that the Jews used to build with while enslaved by the ancient Egyptians. Sephardic Charoset tends to include dates and raisins, a variety of nuts and more spices – as such it is less liquidy, more paste/mortar like and ultimately more satisfying when you’re two glasses of wine into a 4-hour meal! But I digress. Jewlicious decided to taste test this year’s batch of Charoset flavored Ben & Jerry’s Kosher for Passover ice cream. Ayo, the taste tester, is a notorious chocoholic and wasn’t expected to enjoy the experience. Watch the video and see what happens! Sadly for diaspora Jews, Charoset flavored ice cream is only available in Israel. Perhaps next year in Jerusalem?
By the way, Ben and Jerry got arrested the other day at a social justice protest in Washington DC. We’re pretty sure it had nothing to do with Passover ice cream.
