Securing Jerusalem

Don’t worry Jerusalem, ck and the newly instituted all-woman Jewlicious unit of the IDF is on the job, securing Jerusalem in advance of the Jerusalem day celebrations. Of course we missed all that because we were at the mega event but what the hey! Happy Jerusalem Day! We are celebrating only 38 years of a reunited Jerusalem. Its only been 38 years that Jews have been able to pray freely at the Kotel, all thanks to Pope Ratzinger the paratroopers. We have left Jerusalem however. We spent the morning at an archeological dig where Mathew apparently found a 2000 year old phallus. Good times. Next we’re going to the Israeli Air Force Museum and then off to the Bedouin Village where we will spend the night before heading off, at 3 am to Massada. So if anyone there envies us, well… don’t. We do not do this for fun – we do this because we care. We do this… for the children.

  • I wonder if you’ll be able to resist the urge to surf/blog in the bedouin tent in the middle of the negev. Israel is virtually 100% wireless accessible.

  • I listened to something really cool today and I had to pass it on since it relates to Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day).

This (http://www.inn.co.il/metafiles/asx/jerusalem/liberationofjerusalem.asx) is the audio from the libration of Jerusalem 38 years ago today.

It is better if you understand Hebrew but there are still some unmistakable sounds in there that should get your heart going like the sounding of the shofar, the recitation of the sh’hechayanu blessing, the singing of Yerushalayim shel Zahav, the singing of Hatikvah, and the joyous sobbing.

Here is a paragraph from the site I found the link on that gives you a little schedule of what is in the audio.

“To hear the historic declaration [in Hebrew], preceded by army commands and the sounds of battle, click here. “Har HaBayit b’yadeinu! – The Temple Mount is in our hands!” can be heard at 3:33 minutes [approx.] into the recording. The shofar blasts by Rabbi Shlomo Goren can be heard at 5:40[approx.], as Motta Gur begins describing his feelings and the first Jewish entry to a radio reporter. Soldiers led by Rabbi Goren reciting the She’hecheyanu blessing can be heard at 7:35.[the you hear Hatikvah] Rabbi Goren recites the memorial prayer for the soldiers who fell at 8:50.[approx.]

  • I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay and have a great time~! 🙂
