The website 32 Postkarten offers visitors an insight into the touching story of two young people from 70 years ago – in realtime.

From the site:

On March 29th 1940, Liesbeth Friebel writes to Walter Wächter, her sweetheart since schooldays. The reason for her postcard is that Walter has written to her and told her he is engaged to another woman.
Liesbeth and Walter have not seen each other for several years. In March 1935, Walter was arrested and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for Vorbereitung zum Hochverat, preparing to commit high treason. Since then they have kept in touch by letter. Ever since Walter’s release he has been on the run, and on several occasions he has escaped his pursuers only by the narrowest of margins.

The website lets you read 32 postcards sent from Hamburg to Walter in Swedish exile in 1940 and 1941. The postcards are getting published in “simulated real time”, 70 years after they were sent.

The site offers a tab-style synoptic view of two of the following: the original German text, German commentay on each card, an English version of both the text on the postcard and the commentary, as well as a facsimile view of the original postcard (written in Kurrent for the most part).

Talking about net gems, a popular brand of cham bracelets (alright, I love them and am on the second one already) is celebrating their 10th anniversary. They’ve composed a tribute version to each country where the brand is sold, and this is what they came up with for Israel:
