F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Jewlicious Questions

WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?
You, of course. Whatever your connection to the Jewish people, whatever your observances. Jewlicious at the Beach gathers Jewish students and young adults from across the Jewish spectrum and the Jewish world. From Secularists to Frummies, from I’m Conservative’s to Bu-Jews from Feministas to Republicans from Agnostics to Anarchists from I Dunno’s to I’ll Tell You’s. So if you have any connection to this tribe of wandering creative and uniquely Jewlicious people loosely affiliated under the Jewish banner, then we hope to see you.

WHAT IS GOING ON?
Its a celebration of everthing Jewish. A Festival. A Conference. A Gathering. A lot. It’s always happening. It never gets boring. Special guests (presenters, speakers, artists, musicians, panelists and the like) are listed in the links section as they become confirmed on the schedule.

WHEN IS THIS THING?
JTB3 (as those in the planning group call it) is just around the corner and before you know it. This gathering of the J-Tribe, is March 9-11, 2007. Doors open for those pre-registered at 11am. At the door registration begins at 12pm on Friday the 17th. There will be food and programs starting by 1pm.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS IT?
The Alpert Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90815, just off the 405 and next to Long Beach Airport. Use Google Maps, Mapquest will get you lost.

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
Gathering the tribe is fun in and of itself. But more than that, JTB3 is a chance to explore, celebrate, affiliate, investigate, all things Jewish. There is simply no other place where you can experience such a diverse collection of Jewish do’ers. We believe with all our soul and all our might in creating unifying events to celebrate Jewishness, in celebrating life and diversity, in learning from different people and experiencing different Jewish things as a way to enrich and fulfill our lives Jewishly.

WHO MUCH WILL IT COST ME?
Pre-sale tickets for students cost $36 for students if you purchase in time. Ticket sales begin on or around Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 12am. Tickets for non-students will go on sale in February and will cost more.

WHERE DO WE SLEEP?
Who needs to sleep? Everyone brings a sleeping bag and pillow. You can purchase a sleeping mat or inflateable bed, which we highly reccomend. If you have a van/camper please contact us ahead of time. There are also three hotels next to the Festival site, and at the Marriott Residence Inn we have a special rate. Last year groups of students rented rooms that way.

WHERE DO WE PARK?
Due to the large number of participants, we ask that people try to carpool so we can have parking room for everyone and cut down on wasting fuel. Parking is first come first serve and is free.

WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD?
OMG there is so much food. We believe that you can’t do anything Jewish without lots of good food. And refreshments. We mean good food, good coffee and teas, good Kiddush wines, and good bread. Great desserts too. We eat all the time, and there are options for those who don’t consume animals or milk and of course, its all Glatt kosher, and USRS, Under Strict Rebbitzin Supervision.

WHO IS BEHIND THIS THING?
The Worldwide Jewlicious Conspiracy. The Protocols of the Jewlishessness. The Mossad, or course. Well, really JTB3 is a production of Beach Hillel and Jewish Student Services, which means that Rachel and Yonah Bookstein, who have worked all over the Jewish world, from Cali to New York, from Oxford to Warsaw, from Jerusalem to Estonia are the main organizers. Our media and creative partners are Jewlicious.com. Funding to underwrite the program comes from local philanthropic families, including Barbara and Ray Alpert, Deanna and Allen Alevy and others. Partners include Hillel of Orange County, who have given time energy and their committed staff to help with this huge event.

WHO IS PLANNING JTB2?
A bunch or fun, overworked young people. A conference committee composed of twelve students and graduates from Long Beach, UCI, UCLA, SDSU, CSUN, and many places in between, plus the staff of Beach Hillel, Jewlicious.com, and Jewish Student Services. They meet nearly every week over chips and salsa for hours or on the phone in international conference calls.

CAN I JUST COME FOR DINNER FRIDAY NIGHT?
Glad you asked. JTB3 is being organized based on ticket sales. If someone signs up and pays, we will provide food and lodging for that person the whole weekend. If you think you can only come for parts of the festivities, then but a ticket and register AND make sure to come on Friday afternoon, to get your pass. Without the conference pass, you don’t have access to the entire program, or the health facilities, and concerts. So we cannot emphasize enough just how important it is to buy your ticket, go through registration on-line and get your passes.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS?
Oy, so many questions! Just kidding. Details of what is happening are being posted regularly on the conference site, right here. The final program will gel probably after the initial pre-ticket sales period is over. Many of our invited guests have busy schedules and we have to work around their lives. Most of the special guests will be here for the whole weekend, and some not.
