When they visited the region this past summer, Obama went to Ramallah, McCain didn’t and yet, according to a recent poll, McCain is ahead of Obama in the West bank and Gaza.

One-in-three residents of the West Bank and Gaza Strip would like Republican John McCain to win the 2008 United States presidential election, according to a poll by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion. 33.5 per cent of respondents favour McCain, while 27.7 per cent support Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

The respondents were asked “Which United States presidential candidate do you support?” In face-to-face interviews with 1,020 Palestinian adults in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, conducted from Sept. 1 to Sept. 10, 2008, 30.4% answered “Neither of them.”

I know. I don’t get it either.

  • Dr. Kukali needs to keep up with Barack’s policy reversals that change with the wind, common opinion, polls, or based on who’s getting thrown under the bus at the time. Less than 12 hours later, Obama already reversed himself. Personally I don’t think he did it maliciously for pandering purposes. I just think he knew as much about that subject as Sarah Palin, except he’s running fro President of HIS America. Thanks MUL for that Freudian slip.

  • this is what the pollster thinks:

    http://www.pcpo.ps/polls/poll166.htm

    The favorite US Presidential Candidate:
Dr. Nabil Kukali, Director-General of the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO), said that the most significant finding the poll results unveiled is that a substantial rate of the Palestinian public (33.5 %) are at present in favor of Mr. John McCain, the candidate of the US Republicans, as the coming President of the United States of America, whilst Mr. Barack Obama, the candidate of the Democratic Party, scored (27.7 %). (30.4 %) of the Palestinians said they “favor neither of them” and (8.3 %) declined to answer.

Dr. Kukali indicated in his comments on these results that the modest support for Mr. Barack Obama could be attributed to his previous declarations about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that agitated among the Palestinians a feeling of discontent as he said that “the City of Jerusalem should remain the capital of Israel and must be kept unified. And the right of the Palestinians to re-claim Jerusalem should be left to the negotiations between the two conflict parties”. “Mr. Obama emphasized thereby the legitimate right of Israel to annex the whole city”, Dr. Kukali said.

  • Nah, they probably want William Ayers or Rev Wright. Much more akn to their world view.

  • The poll undersamples Hamas members. The One should be ahead.
