Again. 3rd time in 4 months!

… and he still rocked the house. Last night Matisyahu performed to a packed house at Just For Laughs and he verily kicked butt. Talk about a mixed crowd. There were the Ghetto Shul kids (Mamish Gevalt – yes, that WAS Rabbi Trugman of the Carlebach Moshav – Mevo Modiin, in the back), bopping along with the Hillel kids, some lapsed seminary girls (though not too many Yeshivah boys… wussup?) , a whole load of Jewish and non-Jewish hipsters, Rastas, French Canadians, McGill Students, a smattering of bubbies and zeydes… you get the point. What a trip to hear this diverse crowd roar in approval as Matisyahu sang about Jerusalem, the coming of the messiah, loss, redemption, faith and ahavat chinam. I’m sure there’s a lesson in there somewhere, but what the hell do I know. Check out Matisyahu’s Web site for a show coming near you. The guy tours like a mad man!

And Tiff? You’re now 0 for 2. Just sayin’ thasall …

  • Here’s the link.

In the article, he is quoted:

“It’s both simple and hard,” he says with a laugh. “Music is not a path or a lifestyle that will bring a person to permanently change himself. It’s a tool – a tool for the way. You get a certain charge at a show, but the real spiritual charge comes from learning about God, learning Hasidism, and really meditating. Going out into the world gives you a way to put your knowledge and concepts into real life, which strengthens them. The rules that guide you, you see them in a real way.

“That’s the world we live in,” he adds. “The physical matter of the universe covers the spiritual, and it’s our job to reveal the spark again. The whole purpose according to Yiddishkeit, is for the Jews to go out into the world and elevate the sparks of God in everything, to find the higher meaning in them, like the candle that is so much brighter in a dark room than the candle that burns in sunlight.”

  • There’s an article about him in the current issue of Toronto’s Now magazine (www.nowtoronto.com), which is one of the alternative weeklies.

  • It was taboo! And my team was winning…Hope youre having a great time. Sorry I was acting all Miss Crabby-Pants yesterday. I have faith in you and your taste in the ladies….

  • Patty… sheesh. I can’t believe you missed the show to play Monopoly at Thompson house. Losers.

  • Ok, ok, I’ll drag Tiff there next time he comes by 😉

Would that be jewlicious enough for a t-shirt? 🙂

  • Um, over 22 and not married?

How about over 22, not married, still doing the quasi tznius (long skirt but a peak of collarbone?) thing but hanging out at a place where boys and girls dance in close proximity to each other without benefit of a mechitzah?

I dunno Skylar. Frum chicks just have this look. And for some reason, it’s oddly compelling.

  • What exactly is a “lapsed seminary girl,” and how can you recognize one?
