“we” as in “the German contestants in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest”
I know, I know, the German contestants over the past few years haven’t exactly been great to begin with, so I tend to root for Israel anyway. If only we could get the Israeli contestants to come up with crappier contributions 1980s-style pop, fake boo.. ahemm.. blonde hair and a risqué dance performance…
This year, Israel is getting represented by Noa and Mira Awad (a Palestinian Christian as far as I’ve read), so, while I don’t know what song exactly they’ll be performing, this Beatles cover has made me smile:

Ha, I remember those “guys”… They occasionally appear on TV on “worst of” shows..
Värsta Schlagern is beautifully self-referential parody – just have a listen at the lyrics.
If you want TRUE cheese (the kind which stinks the whole apartment block when you open it), please observe this Finnish abomination from the year 1990: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjNnSU_zto8
It never made it to any major competitions (luckily), however, it was number one in various play-lists in the country back then.
And be thankful if you do not understand the lyrics.
I don’t think you’ll see “new” music on Eurovision. Its cheese at its best!
Love it!
Sorry, I was never a fan of the EuroVision. It’s hard to see “new” music there. if you want you can take a look at the Swedish song “värsta schlagern” which speaks exactly about that. I would have translated but it’s too late at night for me to think.
Good luck to Achinoam Nini and Mira Awad, i hope you won’t get disqualified just for representing Israel.
Yael, I agree wholeheartedly. I’m also not happy about the show having been removed from a more intimate, small audience to large concert halls, where sound machines, lighting, special effects and background dancers leave a bigger impression than the voice – or the lyrics – ever could.
Britain has had some crap contestants the past couple of years.
Not that it matters though. I love watching it, but the voting results always anger me!
