Wow. Jon Stewart, the host of Comedy Central‘s The Daily Show tore Jim Cramer a new butt hole. Cramer, the loud and combative host of CNBC’s Mad Money along with the rest of the financial reporting industry and business news cable networks, were accused by Stewart of not only failing to foresee the credit crisis, but siding with bankers and helping to inflate the bubble. Stewart also “…pointedly questioned the hyped-up theatricality and dubious claims of CNBC shows like “Mad Money†and “Fast Money.†When Mr. Cramer explained, “There is market for it and you give it to them,†Mr. Stewart stared at him in disbelief, exclaiming. “There’s a market for cocaine and hookers!— Stewart noted that “If I had only followed CNBC’s advice, I’d have a million dollars today … provided that I’d started with $100 million” A de-fanged Cramer for the most part just sat and took it, blaming deceptive colleagues and sources and promising to do better in the future.
Uh… yeah. You can watch the whole unedited segment on the Comedy Central Web site. In this case, Stewart was right on the money, so to speak, as opposed to his little Gaza rant which was a little off, but we forgive him…

I don’t forgive Stewart. I just watched his Gaza rant, and he has crossed all lines. First, he is no longer just a comedy show – that is not something he can hide behind – he is a media critic (a bad one), who inserts jokes into his tirades. The Daily Show used to be great – sharp, and on point. Over the past few years, it has turned into little less that a mouthpiece for the American far left.
I don’t understand – is Jon Stewart really that stupid? Does he really believe that until Israel launched Cast Lead, “everything in the Middle East was fine”? If Hamas shooting rockets at Israel is “not an unusual occurrence” does that make them ok?
He is upset that both side are not adequately represented in the US without even attempting the moral equivocation of terrorists with the IDF. But the truest display of his feelings is when he removes his confetti (or whatever that thing was) from his hair, with sadness, when he learns that Israel has actually decided to defend itself…
I know this has all be said before – so I’m sorry for being a bit redundant, but it seems that every time I watch a piece from the Daily Show, my disdain for Jon Stewart grows greater.
Todah Rabah, I hadn’t seen Stewart’s piece on Gaza before you linked to it. Kol ha Kavod, my respect for him just went even higher.
It’s pretty pathetic though that a show on Comedy Central has more on the money news analysis than all the other American news sources.
Wah, Daily Show is still on the telly? I wonder how they find time do the shows it since they obviously now run the US State Department.
Jon Stewart aka Jonathan Liebowitz is a dick.
Ah, Middle, we could construct a theory around how Jay relates to this post.
Suggestion #1: He’s poor. And it’s all the Jewish Irishmen’s fault.
Apart from being off-topic, as I perceive it, your question begs a little more observation, which might tell you that people, besides those with a basically racist agenda to begin with, take offence at the supposed attempt by immigrants to impose their “native” set of values onto the society they immigrate to.
FYI, the killing of Sinti and Roma, Jehova’s Witnesses, intellectuals, artists, Communists, handicapped people etc. during the Holocaust and the Euthanasia has widely been addressed, not only by their respective representatives but also by politicians, clergy and the general public over here in Europe. Their voices are and have been heard. You might want to get your sources straight.
Jay, since your comment has nothing to do with this discussion, would you mind if I deleted it?
Why is this kind of blink nationalism ok with Jews who are then loudly complaining about Puerto Ricans waving their flag to show their love of Puerto Rico.
Don’t get me wrong. I am giving it to you that you have perfect right to knee-jerk support Israel no matter how bratty their behavior. I just don’t get why Irish people can get falling down drunk in the streets, paint themselves and the river green and scream drunken loyalty for a country they are generations removed from and then get mad at Mexicans for loving, missing and supporting a land they just left.
Anyone who can manage not to get sidelined by percieved insults (I am in Chicago Illinois, and I am reporting behavior, not judging it) and draw down to the basics, that is, that ALL people have a right to show love for their homeland, not just white people, is welcome to respond.
Don’t have any use for people who can’t see past “No Irish need apply” or even the Holocaust (five million other people with nobody left to speak for them were exterminated as well).
Just reminding people to walk a mile as you fundamentalize…
I saw it coming, but my American friends wouldn’t believe that a decline of traditional industries with numerous lay-offs particularly among blue-collar and unskilled workers, the rise of the oil price (rather due to venture than to scarcity) alongside the dependence on oil (even plastic shopping bags are to blame), global outsourcing, the rising demand for lowly-priced goods, the rising demand for a lifestyle beyond one’s possibilities financed through credit cards without any substantial securities to back oneself, the possibility of getting more than one mortgage on a home, the tendency of getting overpriced services instead of doing things yourself, a wrong sense of entitlement particularly among those that do not have a sound take on the principle of “work for money for goods of value” inevitably had to lead to an economic crisis. A safe-trade zone, which some politicians consider a proper response, will eventually just cut off the US from much needed im- and export, the latter of which particularly constitutes as the last strong backbone of US industries but is bound to fail if the dollar’s kept artificially up for much longer. Before long, far-Eastern competitors will use the chance to swamp international markets with lowly priced goods in the upperscale industrial goods sector, and those don’t give a damn about patent rights or potential health risks.
This was so frustrating because Stewart was way off. He’s blaming Jim Cramer for not seeing this coming? No one saw it. Not even the top economists in the world. Cramer or any of the CNBC commentators are supposed to be smarter than Nobel laureates???
And it’s fine asking where their investigative reporting was. But the same question should be asked to those who are actually trained journalists, rather than trained businessmen, such as the staff at the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, 60 Minutes and all the other big media types. Why didn’t they investigate the practices of the big banks?
Why in the world would anyone think that Jim Cramer, a former investment banker with no journalistic credentials whatsoever, is more to blame for a lack of journalistic initiative than the top journalists in the world?
Could care less about either of these two but the character assassination thing worries me greatly. Stewart wasn’t saying shit about Cramer until the guy turned on Obama, and a guest on his show did some showboating that ended up sparking the Tea Party protests that are popping up in various states. It’s no coincidence this happened the same week that Democrats organized their stunt to draw focus away from the White House and on to the lame Republican leadership. It seems to be lost on Stewart that Cramer merely echoed what various Democrats in power, including the head of the Finance Committee had also said. Stewart has just appointed himself an Obama puppet.
I listened to it also. I thought he was a bit over-friendly to Jim Cramer. The video clips in his initial show were way more telling as to the nature of CNBC and how they represent the corporations, not us the investors. I do feel that Jim Cramer came clean, but only somewhat.

It was my first time seeing the Gaza thing, how sad. Just another assimilated Jew.
While I enjoy watching Cramer every night, one must remember the show is primarily entertainment. The financial networks exist to promote their advertisers financial and investment products. Who would expect them to warn about the credit bubble or coming Washington national debt collapse which will destroy much of the remaining private wealth in America today or what this will do to the dollar, the stock market, bonds, gold or the real estate market?
China is now worried about their dangerous over investment in US Treasury obligations. Washington ’s long-term choice is either repudiation or monetization. For monetization to be effective, the depreciation in the dollar would have to be substantial and this in turn would dramatically raise prices of imports for American consumers which would mean a tremendous drop in foreign imports. Debt monetization would cause more disruption to exporting nations than selective repudiation of Treasury debt.
The Campaign to Cancel the Washington National Debt By 12/22/2013 Constitutional Amendment is starting now in the U.S. See: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=67594690498&ref=ts
Thanks,
Ron with 30 plus years in the investment business and banking industry.
I love Jon Stewart. I haven’t heard his Gaza rant, so I can’t hold that against him. But I absolutely adore him.
If you’re in Canada, you can watch the episode on the Comedy Network website, the American link doesn’t work.
Why do you forgive him? Do you forgive Finkelstein too?
