In addition, a dummy bomb with a note attached condemning the parade was found in Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood. Police sappers found the fake bomb in a bag.

“Hundreds more bags with real bombs will be waiting for you,” the note, addressed to police, read. “Just like the disengagement blew up in your face, so will the parade.”

The rioting continues. We can debate the merits and demerits, pros and cons, rights and wrongs of a gay parade in Jerusalem until we are blue in the face. But this brief discussion is patently not about that: its about whether or not a group can create enough damage and threats of violence to get their way. And Muffti says ‘kudos the cops (in this instance) for not bowing to violence and terrorism’:

“Canceling the parade because of threats of violence – is a threat to the nature of the country,” said Mazuz.

Indeed!

  • SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT

Its not about violence. Its about what values the court finds acceptable.

Arab destruction of ancient temple artifacts on the Temple Mount was declared illegal but for fear of arab violence nothing was done (except to arrest Jews going through the rubble.) – this was a disgrace and shame for the jewish people.

So it is very selective what the “court” chooses to worry about.

  • When I boil over? No. When Judaism becomes aggressively targeted by the Israelis, to the a point where many of us will say “ad khan!” No, we’re not there yet.

I know exactly who the Macabees are, why they needed to rebel, what they stood for and how they dealt with the Hellenist bretheren. Many of us recall the events in celebration, every year – for 8 days, no less! And you?

Some reading material for your pleasure:

  • So you oppose violence today, but expect to become violent yourself when you boil over. Or maybe you think the Macabees were a nonviolent civil resistance movement?

  • Warren and ShyGuy – there’s a more rabid debate about homosexuality and Judaism going on at GM’s Nathan Shaked post. I think Muffti posting this was to focus the debate on incitement. More interesting to me. I’m curious to know – maybe G-D Squad can say with more detail – how the police are dealing with this. Do you get a sense they’re feeling caught in the middle? Is there a sense of reluctance on their part? Are the Haredim going out of their way to provoke the police? We’re getting none of this in the American press so thanks to G-D Squad for posting the links to those videos – kudos.

  • Rabbi Yo: Yes, it certainly was rioting in the true sense of the word, and it is still going on right now, as I just saw the police beating some haredim right outside my window two hours ago. If my video looks too weak-sauce to you, you might get a better impression of the events as they occured here and here.

I myself was manhandled a bit by the police despite the fact that I was not participating in the riot. Also, police in full riot gear with backup were blocking the haredim from marching out of Meah Sheariim.

But otherwise, I miss you! How is the mishpocha? Please send my regards to all the CSULB homies.

  • Wow, and I thought we Catholics got wigged out over the gay issue.

  • Oppose but I’ve got to confess to you that the ongoing campaign to de-Judaize the land of Israel (and it is a campaign – sinister, well oiled and funded) will, at some point, force me to stand with the Macabees against the Helenists. I believe that the boiling point is very close.

Now, about your new claim: where did I state “understanding”? In fact, my first words here were “Muffti is right about it sounding like terrorism.” How did you “understand” otherwise?

  • So what do you advocate?

Do you oppose rioting and stabbing? Support it? Express “understanding” (which I claim means “I support it, but I don’t want to be tried for incitement”)?

  • Too bad, Warren. I’m not packing. But where did I advocate bedroom cams, dumpster burnings or stabbings? I didn’t. Time for you to fabricate something new.

  • I love the way he tries to stop shuckeling (rocking back and forth) but can’t help himself. I also have a new appreciation for the people who play that horrible music in Kikar Tzion, at least they’re not burning dumpsters.

Look, “Shy Guy”, unless you’re going to put a policeman a camera in every bedroom in the country, burning some dumpsters, or even stabbing marchers (as happened during last year’s parade) isn’t going to stop the sodomy. If you’re worried that we’re going to be “vomited out” because people are engaging in forbidden sexual acts, start packing.

  • Having just seen the latest news, I guess Riots really is the right word:

Ultra-Orthodox youth have rioted in Jerusalem nearly every night during the past week, setting garbage cans ablaze, blocking roads and

attacking police officers in a show of force aimed at blocking the parade.

According to Jerusalem police, six policemen have been hurt in the clashes over the past week and 60 rioters have been arrested.

  • Muffti is right about it sounding like terrorism.

Muffti is very wrong about Manny Mazuz’ claim:

“Canceling the parade because of threats of violence – is a threat to the nature of the country,” said Mazuz.

Here’s the nature of the country:

“For the land to which you are coming to possess is not like the land of Egypt, out of which you came, where you sowed your seed and which you watered by foot, like a vegetable garden.
But the land, to which you pass to possess, is a land of mountains and valleys and absorbs water from the rains of heaven,
a land the Lord, your God, looks after; the eyes of Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.”

    – Devarim 11:10-12

A land where we have previous in the Torah been warned will respond to our immoral actions, among them homosexuality:

“You shall not lie down with a male, as with a woman: this is an abomination.
And with no animal shall you cohabit, to become defiled by it. And a woman shall not stand in front of an animal to cohabit with it; this is depravity.
You shall not defile yourselves by any of these things, for the nations, whom I am sending away from before you, have defiled themselves with all these things.
And the land became defiled, and I visited its sin upon it, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.
But as for you, you shall observe My statutes and My ordinances, and you shall not do like any of these abominations neither the native, nor the stranger who sojourns among you.
For the people of the land who preceded , did all of these abominations, and the land became defiled.
And let the land not vomit you out for having defiled it, as it vomited out the nation that preceded you.”

    – Vayikra, 18:22-28

Rabbi Yonah is right. This is very much an “eit tzarah le’Yaacov”.

  • Nice amatuer TV G-d Squad.
Though i think riot is way to sever a word. it looks like hooliganism. I didn’t see in your video lines of police facing lines of demonstrators like you might see in a riot, and things are just too laid back.

But hooligans, vandals, arson, yeh it doesn’t look very Motze Shabbostik.

We usually sing “Al tireh Yakov” on Sat Night.
I would venture to say that Yaakov should be afraid.
