As the title of this post suggests, there will be a Save Darfur rally in New York of Sept. 17th in New York. Timed to coincide with the 61st opening of the UN General Assembly and meant to show support for the mobilization of UN peacekeepers to Darfur, the rally is being sponsored by a number of groups, including the American Jewish World Service. Speakers will include representatives from the Darfur refugee community, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Amnesty International U.S.A. Director Larry Cox, the Reverend Gloria White-Hammond, Sudan expert John Prendergast and U.S. Olympic gold medalist Joey Cheek.
