Haaretz reports that President GW Bush gave the ok for a center to be built in Israel in his name:

President George Bush was informed on Tuesday of an initiative to establish a center under his name in Israel, as a sign of gratitude for his support for the country and its security. Outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the United States Daniel Ayalon asked Bush for the go-ahead to establish such a center during a farewell meeting with the president and his deputy, Dick Cheney. Bush told Ayalon that “freedom” would be a worthy subject for the center to focus on.

Ayalon has yet to approach donors with a request to finance the establishment of the “Bush Center” in Israel, but does not expect to encounter difficulties when it comes to raising the funds. The outgoing ambassador will continue to work on the matter with White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten.

First, I love that they’re calling Cheney Bush’s “deputy.” Reminds me of Deputy Dawg. Or a deputy sheriff in a small western town, plagued by local saloon-plunderers, shootouts at high noon, and an abundance of tumbleweed.

And secondly, I think this is another proof of the prophecy of Ben Stiller, who, with his seminal fashion model classic, “Zoolander“, predicted that there would be a “Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too,” where the slogan is, “we teach you that there’s more to life than being really, really good looking.”

  • Stupid ideas belong together. They could save a fortune of money by subleasing deadspace in Jerusalem’s/Rabbi Hier’s Center for Human Dignity, whenever it’s completed.

  • For the record: This should read: “A half baked ’strategic vision’ for the region that relies strongly on fantasy, and a lack of real will & manpower to carry it out”. In case that was confusing to anyone. Cheers, ‘VJ’

  • OK I stand corrected. This is the stupidest idea any Jew has come up with in possibly 1-2 generations. Really. Really. Stooopid. Somewhere our dearly departed long dead heroes are groaning in unison, and our enemies laughing. Or both alternatively laughing and crying. Just damn amazing.

This man has single handedly strengthened the hand of almost every real mortal enemy Israel has in the region. Iran will go nuclear on his watch or come damn close, and we can’t do a single thing to actively prevent it. Ditto for N. Korea and their export driven nuke & arms industry, which is intimately tied into the conflicts of the region. Syria & Iran are now making common alliances with the Shiite government & their numerous deadly private death squads & militias in Iraq. If Bush was running Hamas he could not be doing more damage to the long term interests of Jews and to & for the long term strategic interests of Israel. Allies actively alienated, attacked & defeated in endless wars with no adequate planning, and no real strategy for ‘victory’ or even ‘stasis’. A half baked ‘strategic vision’ for the region that relies on strongly on fantasy, a lack of real will & manpower to carry it out. A deep perception by our enemies & allies alike of a ‘bluff & blunder’ regime of warcraft & statecraft that would be familiar to only Kaiser Bill and certain incompetent French Generals of WW1. (And here, we’re being unfair to the French probably).

We might as well hermetically seal off the state of Israel from the rest of the world forevermore if this actually comes to pass. No one will ever take them seriously about much of anything afterwards! Cheers, ‘VJ’

  • Although they do not expect funding trouble, if it so happens that funding will not be sufficient, perhaps they can start a center with a less ambitious theme, for example the George W. Bush Center for the Peaceful Coexistence of Human and Fish.

  • A “freedom” center named after George W. Bush is like a “philo-Semitism” center named after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
