A few months ago I bought a bed from a guy who was leaving Israel. He had been here for a year and in that time was swindled, sued, raped, tortured, murdered, molested, and killed.

Ok, well, it wasn’t all those things, but he sure made his experience sound awful. I was new to the big City and grew wary, things had been going so well for me, was I blind to something? I wanted to know more.

“Look,” he said, “Jews are like fertilizer. You spread them all around the place and you get a lovely rose garden. You put them all in one place and what do you have?”

“The Zionist Dream, realized?,” I ventured.

“No, a pile of shit.”

  • Do people who move to Israel expect to find the streets paved with gold, and the land populated by saints with glowing halos?

  • I know of someone who lent some money to an Israeli, who said he would get it back in a couple of weeks. After that he the borrower asked if he *really* needed it back. Yes, was the answer. Still he delays. Then in another conversation he claims Israelis are the worst, they don’t keep their word.

Anyone know about this blog TV thing on Sheinkin St.?
