The spies never planned to return with good news about Israel. The entire concept was ill conceived. They wanted to stay in exile. Life was easier on the exodus. Free food, divine protection, gorgeous views, spiritual life, close contact with Moses and his conversations with God. All that would finish in Israel. So they developed a plan to undermine settling the Land of Milk and Honey. The plan worked very well. We spent another 38 years in the desert.
