Jewish cantors and camp song directors initially shuddered at the news that singer/songwriter Bob Dylan had sold his music catalog and publishing rights to Universal Music for more than a reported $200 million (some estimate it at over $300 million).
However, the Adon Olam prayer, which is frequently sung to Nobel Prize recipient Dylan’s tunes, including “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and “Like a Rolling Stone,” is not included in the sale.
Whew.
It was nearly sixty years ago, in 1962, that Bob Dylan signed a music publishing contract which was brokered by Lou Levy of Leeds Music Publishing. Dylan now has over 600 songs to his name, having been officially recorded by over 6,000 artists. His albums have sold over 125 million copies.
