Jewlicious and Jewschool exchange feeds

The title of this post is a direct quote from Jewschool blogger Ariela when told that Jewschool and Jewlicious were exchanging RSS feeds (That allows us to display, on the left, the last 10 Jewschool posts and vice versa). Why is that? Well, it might have something to do with my history with Dan Sieradski, the like, head dude at Jewschool. I first ran into Dan when he wrote some articles in Jewsweek that I took umbrage with.

For instance, Dan wrote an article called When Jews cry wolf where he “reported” on a little fracass between Pro-Palestinian and Zionist students at York University. Dan reported, amongst other things, that Jewish Hillel students surrounded and bullied the Palestinian supporters and told them that they “deserved to be raped.” The scene he described was basically one where the Zionist students pulled a routine reminiscent of the Brown Shirts on their opponents.

In the comments that followed, I supplemented my well written and sublime rebuttal with stuff like calling Sieradski an “attention wh*re” and ignorant, described his writing as “stupid,” “malicious,” “patronizing,” “retarded,” “illogical,” and “ideological tripe.” A rollicking discussion was had by all! Not only was I attacking the credibility of SPHR (Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights) members, but at the same time I was arguing with a couple of right-wing Canadian goombahs who did not understand that the benefits of citizenship apply to all citizens regardless of religion or one’s ideas.

Aaaaaanyways… after that I started commenting on Jewschool. Whenever I felt I was being fed bullshit, I called it bullshit. My exchanges with Sieradski and his fellow posters was often heated and acrimonious. But not always. I like to think that I was fair and sometimes even funny. Eventually I decided that I would create Jewlicious as a voice of reason, located somewhere in between Jewschool and say Little Green Footballs on the ideological spectrum. I mean sometimes LGF is right and sometimes Jewschool is right. We’re supposed to be the voice of reason I guess.

So here we are… and when Dan suggested we exchange feeds, despite our sometimes acrimonious past, I said “why not?” But don’t get me wrong. Dan and some of his buddies can still be massive dicks in the thrall of delusional and misguided ideas. But I figure if it encourages discussion and exchange of ideas then it’s worth it. We’ll see I guess. For now I am going to try and play nice.

  • I think it’s an interesting experiment, and we definitely stand somewhere in The Middle between LGF and some of the fine individuals at Jewschool.

  • I admire the sentiments of (cheeky) respect, understanding, and balance that you’re expressing here in discussing other’s stances and approaches. Keep it up!
