If you are in the Los Angeles area, you have a great opportunity to go see Israel’s submission for Best Foreign Film, Campfire, by Yoseph Cedar at the AFI Festival. Campfire was the winner of 5 Israeli Oscars (Ofir’s), including Best Picture.
The film, set in 1981, at the rise of the modern settler movement, focuses on the lives, romances, ideological struggles et al. of a widowed mother and her two teenage daughters as they attempt to join a new religious settlement in Samaria.
Go check it out. The festival continues until November 14.
