Volunteering is totally hot. This month has lots of volunteering options so that anyone can get their hot social action on–just check out JSAMNY (don’t try to pronounce the acronym–it’s “Jewish Social Action Month NY”) for a list of opportunities.

Those on the West Coast can register for Just For a Day, a community social action/service project–sponsored by UJC, Hillel and others–that culminates in a participants-only concert featuring the very Jewlicious Guster/Leevees.

Plus, Hillel has launched the Pledge an Hour Campaign, which seeks to promote greater levels of volunteerism, both within the Jewish community and beyond. Their goal is to get people to pledge 250,000 hours of service by November 30, matching the 100,000 volunteer hours students are already giving through Hillel Tzedek initiatives. For more information, see their website.
Actually, you can put the social back, or the action back, or the Jewish back in Jewish Social Action Month. Just don’t bring Sexyback. Or Paxilback.
