Jewish people have been known to look to the heavens or at least to the East from whence their strength will come, and in the past few weeks, two Israelis have made earthwide news with their ideas on aliens.

Harvard Professor Avi Loeb writes in a forthcoming book that in 2017, astronomers in Hawaii tracked an alien technology for several days as it passed the Earth and Venus and traveled toward Vega. In Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth (January 26, 2021, HMH), Loeb, the chair of Harvard’s Astronomy Department, explains his theory that Earth’s solar system was recently visited by advanced alien technology from a distant star system; it was shaped like a cigar, a long dill pickle, or a 1 millimeter thick sail-shaped trashed space buoy. Maybe it uses the solar wind, as Kepler hypothesized centuries ago.

Loeb, who was born 58 years ago in Beit Hanan, Israel received a graduate degree in plasma physics from Hebrew University. He writes that in 2017, scientists at a Hawaiian observatory glimpsed an object soaring through our inner solar system, moving so quickly that it could only have come from another star. Professor Loeb shows that it was not an asteroid; it was moving too fast along a strange orbit, and it left no trail of debris in its wake, like a comet would. Loeb continues to list the implications for science, Earth religions, and for the future of the human species. Loeb is the founding director of Harvard’s Black Hole Initiative, and director of the Institute for Theory and Computation (ITC) at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

It was on October 19, 2017 (the week of Parshat Noach), that astronomers at the University of Hawaii spotted a strange object which they described as “a red and extremely elongated asteroid.” They named it “Oumuamua,” a Hawaiian word for a scout or messenger. I would have called it MERAGLIM (Numbers 13). Hehe. In October 2018, Loeb with Shmuel Bialy, a Harvard postdoc, co-wrote a paper examined ‘Oumuamua’s “peculiar acceleration” and suggested that the object “may be a fully operational probe sent intentionally to Earth’s vicinity by an alien civilization.” Loeb once wrote that he follows the maxim of Sherlock Holmes: ‘When you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.’

Also, a few weeks ago, Haim Eshed, Israel’s former space security chief, and highly respected scientist, wrote a book in Hebrew and gave interviews to Yediot Aharonot and the Jerusalem Post that aliens exist, and claimed that the American government had an “agreement” with a “galactic federation” of aliens, and that “humanity is not ready” to know about it. The author of the Art of the Deal made a deal with extraterrestrial visitors. Eshed’s book is titled, ‘The Universe Beyond the Horizon – conversations with Professor Haim Eshed.’

General Eshed, 87, is a three time recipient of the Israel Security Award. He wrote that there is an underground alien based on Mars. Professor Eshed also wrote that aliens and the Galactic Federation have prevented nuclear accidents, even during the Bay of Pigs invasion.
