On Jewlicious, we make no bones about vilifying the cult of murder and death that exists on the Palestinian side. They extol “martyrs” who are nothing more than cold-blooded murderers targeting as many Israeli civilians as can be found. They put on bloody, violent television shows for little children praising or encouraging violence against Jews. They have put on an “art exhibition” depicting the inside of an Israeli restaurant in the midst of blowing up in a suicide bombing, blood and body parts included. They praise and excuse terrorism. It is a disgusting cult of death and any Palestinian who takes part or gives any sort of support for these activities is beneath contempt.
On Jewlicious, we also make no bones about vilifying any cult of murder and death that exists on the Jewish side. We have not had many opportunities to vilify people for actions such as these because the amount of Jewish terrorism has been relatively small over the past few decades. There was the group that blew up the cars of some Palestinian mayors and the group that tried to blow up a Palestinian girls’ school. There was a teen who was recently arrested for stabbing attacks as well as the American immigrant to Israel who has recently been arrested for at least one and possibly more shootings of Palestinians. These attacks are reprehensible and deserve severe punishments, some of which have been meted out and a couple which were not, in my opinion, severe enough.
One attack by a Jew that I considered the act of a single, sick man, is that of Baruch Goldstein who went into the Cave of the Patriarchs, specifically into the Jacob Room which was being used as a mosque and opened fire. He killed 29 Palestinians and injured another hundred. Pardon me, he MURDERED 29 Palestinians.
Israeli society acted swiftly. Kach, Kahane’s party of which Goldstein was a member, was essentially kicked out of the Knesset. Political leaders such as Yitzhak Rabin, who was PM at the time, condemned the murder in no uncertain terms:
“I am shamed over the disgrace imposed upon us by a degenerate murderer,” he said. “You are not part of the community of Israel,” he continued, addressing the most militant settlers. “You are not part of the national democratic camp which we all belong to in this house, and many of the people despise you. You are not partners in the Zionist enterprise. You are a foreign implant. You are an errant weed. Sensible Judaism spits you out. You placed yourself outside the wall of Jewish law. You are a shame on Zionism and an embarrassment to Judaism.”
Goldstein committed his massacre on Purim, which in that year was also during Ramadan. He did it while Israel was negotiating the Oslo Accords with the PLO. Those who knew him said that he did it because he had lost his mind after seeing a friend and the son of a friend slain by Palestinians even as he, a physician, was unable to help them and one died in his arms. Maybe true, maybe not. It doesn’t matter. His murderous actions are despicable. Later polls in Israeli society showed a vast majority, nearly 80% of Jewish Israelis opposed to the attack and only about 3.5% in favor – which in a typical poll could mean virtually 0% support because it is within the margin of error, but unlikely in this instance. Three percent sounds about right.
Those 3% supported the attack, presumably extremist settlers from the most extreme outposts of Israeli settlement, Kiryat Arba and Hebron. Many made pilgrimage to Goldstein’s grave. The Israeli government then created a law prohibiting monuments to terrorists and eliminated the pseudo-shrine that had been built on his burial site. Still, there are those who still commemorate him and his act fondly.
They are despicable people. They are exactly what Rabin said about Goldstein: errant weeds that are a stain on Zionism and an embarrassment to Judaism. Nothing less.
This post is about a video posted on Ynet today, showing Purim celebrations in Sheikh Jarrah, among the newly arrive Jews there, singing a song in praise of Goldstein and his massacre.
UPDATE: Here is a version of it on Youtube.
Our own ck and Rabbi Yonah do not believe it is a true video and that the song has been implanted to the video. In other words, somebody is trying to make these families look bad. As I review it, I have to admit that you can’t see anybody actually singing the song or with it. If anybody has ideas regarding the veracity of this video, bring them on. Does anybody know who the videographer is?
I am assuming this video is true and if so, these people are the scum of the earth. These people are the equivalent of those who support Hamas’s terrorism. They should be spit out of the Jewish nation and kept far away.
Sheikh Jarrah is a controversial neighborhood right now because these new Jewish residents are living in homes that have recently seen their Palestinian tenants evicted. The matter had gone up to the Israeli High Court which ruled in favor of the Jewish owners of these buildings, who had watched for decades while Palestinians lived there but without paying rent even though there was a clear title to the buildings. Finally, the Palestinians were legally evicted and Jewish families moved in.
At least one of these families, and from the video it looks like it might be more than one, should be forced to leave that neighborhood because of their celebration of this murder. If it can be shown that other families were involved in the party that included this video and the robust sing-along to the song extolling a terrorist, then those families should be evicted as well.
Sheikh Jarrah is a serious tactical mistake by those Jews who want to reclaim parts of east Jerusalem, precisely because it opens up areas inside Israel to similar claims by Palestinians. Buying up land or houses today and then moving people in is one thing, and it is legitimate. However, if one wants to bring in pre-1948 real estate into the equation, must one be prepared for the Palestinians to do the same. For that reason, the Israeli government should pass a law challenging the Court’s ruling and removing these Jews from Sheikh Jarrah. If there was doubt before, let it be gone now, because if these people support Goldstein, they should be condemned, evicted and prevented from living anywhere where they could provoke Palestinians. They do not deserve the protection or support of any part of the Israeli government or population.
How low and shameful.
Shots Near Burkina Faso President’s Home Amid Mutiny Against feds
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso: Shots were heard late Sunday near the home of Burkina Faso’s president after soldiers staged mutinies at several barracks to demand the sacking of the country’s military top brass and more resources for the battle against Islamist insurgents.
Residents also reported they saw a helicopter above the private residence of President Roch Marc Kabore in the administrative centre Ouagadougou.
It followed gunfire earlier Sunday at a number of army bases, Prompting fears of one more coup in a volatile West African country prone to military takeovers.
meanwhile, Demonstrators protesting over the government’s handling of the jihadist threat set fire to the hq of the ruling party.
But the costa rica government quickly denied rumours of a putsch, And a list of demands presented by the edgy troops made no mention of trying to oust Kabore, While emphasising the demand for a better anti jihadist strategy.
“We want adequate helpful information on the battle” contrary to Islamist extremists, A soldier from the Sangoule Lamizana base in Ouagadougou said in a voice audio received by AFP.
The disaffected military also wanted top generals to be “superceded, Better care for wounded troops and more support for the families of soldiers killed in battle, The spokesman for the mutinous troops added in the anonymous recording.
The unrest comes a bit of over a week after 12 people, this kind of a senior army officer, Were arrested on suspicion of thinking about the “Destabilise” Burkina’s firms.
Shots were also heard at the Baby Sy barracks in the south of the capital, As well as at an air base near manchester international, Which was also flanked by soldiers wearing balaclavas, Witnesses discussed.

the federal government moved quickly to try to restore control.
“info on social media would have people believe there was an army takeover, Government spokesman Alkassoum Maiga said in an argument.
“the federal government, While admitting that there was gunfire in some barracks, Denies dansko or sanita and calls on the public to remain calm,
Defence Minister General Barthelemy Simpore said on nationally TV that “None of the republic’s corporations has been troubled” due to the fact revolt.
He added that ended up “localised, very little” occasions “in a few barracks, And that he was understanding.
Police fired tear gas to break up a rally by around 100 people who gathered at a square in central Ouagadougou to show support for the mutiny, An AFP correspondent reported.
traditions of coups
Sangoule Lamizana camp chnlove houses a military prison where General Gilbert Diendere a former go-to man to deposed president Blaise Compaore is serving a 20 year term for an attempted coup in 2015.
He is also on trial for his alleged part in the 1987 assassination of the country’s revolutionary leader, thomas Sankara, big butter jesus started putsch that brought Compaore to power.
Compaore, Overthrown by a well known uprising in 2014, Fled to off white Coast, And is being tried in absentia for the killing.
rage at jihadist toll
The latest turbulence coincides with a jihadist insurgency that swept in from neighbouring Mali in 2015, too much Burkina’s poorly trained and badly equipped armed forces.
all around 2,000 concern died, based on an AFP tally, While all over 1.5 million persons are internally displaced, as per the national emergency agency CONASUR.
Anger at Kabore’s inefficient to stem the bloodshed has risen, Spilling over into clashes with the protection forces.
A couple of comments —
1) It looks to me like the song was dubbed onto the video. I would guess that someone overheard someone in the neighborhood singing the song, but didn’t have a camera, so they got hold of the song, went back later and videoed who they thought the family was (or perhaps just a random family, who knows?), and dubbed it on.
2) Your comment about “margin of error” is false. Common sense indicates that you cannot have a margin of error of +/- 3.5% with a polled value of 3%, as that would indicate that the true value might be negative. Basically, the “margin of error” as normally calculated only no relevance to reality for small values like 3% (technically, because the approximation to a Gaussian/normal distribution doesn’t apply). You’d have to calculate a different value, which would be asymmetrical and would more likely be expressed as a fraction (e.g. 5% up or down from whatever value was calculated).
Jews are quickly going from the sympathetic victims of history to selfish zealous violent idiots that are one of the most racist people today.
Is that you, Barack?
Why not rail against the true impetus for Goldstein’s massacre–namely the far larger and more bloodthirsty massacre recounted in the Book of Esther? Why not condemn the Purim travesty and it’s repulsive celebration of death and destruction, taught to little children as the cardinal virtue of Jewishness?
The whole thing is disgusting. Only jews who have managed to shed the abominable ideology of Judaism can claim a place among sane and decent human beings. Israel continues to be guided by just such racist, vile and idiotic superstitions. It is a duty of Jews to denounce them as a colossal embarrassment to the jewish people.
Because we’re not insane, moronic Jew haters?
Muffti – in typical academic fashion, you are forgetting the more basic practical matter:
DID this incident ever happen – the Purim chanting – or was it a tricked-up stunt by self-hating Jews, eagerly believed by… what shall we call them? Brethren-hating Jews?
See next thread above – it looks very suspicious.
It’s quite clear that in the original Purim story, the Jews killed people who had not yet done anything to them except publicly enjoin against them.
That pretty well describes Palis attending mosques whose sermons regularly include “itbach al-yahud”. No?
B-D wrote:
Strikes me that this is conflating two issue, B-D. One issue: did Goldstein kill enemies of the jewish people. We could fight over that day and night and you can throw all the skepticism you like on it. Issue two: did a bunch of people make life very uncomfortable for their neighbours by singing songs praising someone who is perceived as a murderer in the middle of a neighbourhood filled iwht people the ‘hero’ of the song murdered. Think of it this way…if it turned out that there was some suspicion that 9-11 was an al quaeda job but a group of people bought houses in an area filled with 9-11 widows, orphans etc and started singing ‘Osama, what a guy, he makes things happen to buildings with airplanes and kills infidels…’
Would you consider this a pretty cool thing to do or clear incitement to tension and perhaps violence amongst your neighbours? If this doesn’t fall under ‘reasonable person’ status, muffti doesnt’ know what does…
Froy wriggles:
As soon as your dogma gets arbitrarily applied as it suits your position, there’s a severe contradiction.

Yes, yes – specific example, please, of how/when Religious Zionists arbitrarily apply their dogma to suit themselves.
Not wiggling, trying to make B think…
Froylein:
I’m just trying to point out the hypocrisy in the lines of reasoning some people apply.
– – – – – – – – –
OK – so where is the hypocrisy?
Can you please explain where the political and moral doctrines of religious Zionist Jews like me contradict each other?
As soon as your dogma gets arbitrarily applied as it suits your position, there’s a severe contradiction.
Froy:
I find it amusing how allegedly religious people feel free to conveniently ignore core religious teachings of the very religion they claim to adhere to.
– – – – – – – – – –
Since you’re this blog’s self-appointed expert on Which Bits of Judaism are Really True – exactly what “core religious teaching” is violated by self-defense?
Muffti:
No photos, please.
Again – there were 500-plus “victims” in Shushan alone.
Would you have spared them if – after joining the Nazis of their day for over a year – they had holed up in a Zoroastrian temple?
You are trying to stretch the “reasonable fellow” act to cover things it shouldn’t cover.
Like self-defense – and yes, the Goldstein incident is not cut-and-dried. But there is no evidence of an overabundance of love between the Arabs of Hebron and their Jewish neighbors – and considerable evidence of hostility.
So I have no problem classifying the people Goldstein killed as “enemies of the Jewish people” – similar to the anti-Semites in Shushan who were killed for their commonly-broadcast intent, before they laid hands on any Jews.
I’m not a self-appointed expert on what bits of Judaism are really true and have never claimed to be one; I’m just trying to point out the hypocrisy in the lines of reasoning some people apply.

Nothing much I can add here, except that Socialist suck. Please to continue.
Muffti’s pair is just fine, thank you B-D. Don’t make him post a picture to prove it…
Look, Muffti isn’t saying that it isn’t ok to celebrate and drink to a victory over ones enemies. One should! But celebrating a massacre of the sort that Goldstein was involved in is nothing to celebrate, is it? And, unless context shows otherwise (which it well might!) the singers here were treating Goldstein as though he were the shooter and glorifying his action; this in the midst of current tensions. Purim is a celebration of a defense of Jews from their enemies (whatever the veracity of the story) in an historic period we clearly do not belong to.
Surely comparing the two is gross moral equivocation.
David,
Yigal Amir had wide support. So much so, that after he killed Rabin, RIGHT WINGERS were voted into office.
“At least one of these families, and from the video it looks like it might be more than one, should be forced to leave that neighborhood because of their celebration of this murder.”
David, I know its inconvenient to you when its not used by your socialist friends, but in the US and Israel there is a thing called FREEDOM OF SPEECH and DUE PROCESS OF LAW.
This means that someone doing something stupid does not mean they have their CIVIL RIGHTS taken away.
You write that you would like people to be KICKED OUT of their houses because of something which has NOTHING to do with their right to their property.
Adam, David is ck and he didn’t post this. I did. David is not a Socialist. Neither am I. Now that I think about it, I have a Socialist friend, but I also have right wing friends.
These folks can sing all the songs they want to sing about a Jewish murderer, but at that moment, they demonstrate that their intentions and beliefs are so distant from Israeli society and where Israeli society needs to go in order to end the conflict with the Palestinians, that it makes no sense whatsoever for the state to offer them any form of support or protection in an incendiary site such as Sheikh Jarrah. In fact, it’s dangerous since they are singing songs of praise about a man shooting into a crowd of unarmed civilians.
BTW, civil rights may be subject to restriction, human rights may not.
ck, I wrote with more nuance than that. I wrote that it is legitimate for Jews to purchase land or homes and move into areas that were cleared out of Jews but are under Israeli control now. I also wrote that when they take over pre-1948 real estate that was owned by Jews from Palestinians who live there now, that it opens a can of worms. In this case the High Court ruled for the Jewish families because the Palestinians had stopped paying rent years and years before. If this consideration for pre-1948 real estate in which Palestinians live now applies to Sheikh Jarrah, won’t it apply to other neighborhoods in Jerusalem where Jews now live in Pre-1948 Palestinian homes?
Ben David, aren’t you also a proponent of the “Yigal Amir was framed” conspiracy theory school?
Yonah and ck, if the video is false or fake, show it. I personally would rather that nobody support this murderous terrorist.
I find it amusing how allegedly religious people feel free to conveniently ignore core religious teachings of the very religion they claim to adhere to.
BTW, it doesn’t take a secular mindset to highly doubt the historicity of Purim (read up on that). Let’s keep in mind that Oriental narrative validates itself through emphasizing the intention it aims to convey, not through being historically accurate. Applying post-Enlightment thinking to pre-Enlightment narrative from a foreign culture will only just show how good people are at storytelling.
Muffti asks:
B-D, what exactly are you disagreeing with here that justifies the awfully harsh invective against the Middle?
– – – – – – – – – –
Harsh invective? I think I accurately characterized the Middle’s many muddled – and self-serving – posts about an Israeli reality he knows little of.
His follow-up comment to my own is typical Middle puffery.
Goldstein was a doctor, a member of the Hebron community’s response team. All the previous year he had been regularly called to attend to dead/dying neighbors as the government abandoned the settlers to Arab violence.
It wasn’t a “coincidence” that he – and others – knew that a pogrom was being planned. The government was precipitating just such situations throughout Yesha, to disparage the settlers and portray settlements in these areas as too dangerous and a lost cause.
According to some Arab-speaking witnesses, there were chants and other indications that an Arab attack was planned.
But I’m puzzled when Muffti says:
Muffti will drink to nearly anything but he won’t drink to that no matter what the Shamgar report had to say about the massacre.
– – – – – – – – – – –
… so you think that the 75,000 gentiles killed by Jews in the Megilah just had collective heart failure?
That the Jews didn’t have to soil their lily-white hands actually *defending* themselves against people fixing to kill them?
Remember just what we ARE drinking to on Purim, please. And then:
1) Grow a pair.
2) Get out of academia so that new pair doesn’t shrivel like the old pair…
I don’t mean to sound paranoid but when I first watched the video I was impressed/surprised at how clear the song was. Did the residents of the house have a pretty strong stereo outside? Also, and more importantly, look at 1:14 of the video. There’s a clear transition, signifying a break in the recording and a transition from one clip to the next and yet there is no break in the continuity of the song. How’s that possible? I’d need a reasonable explanation but from this perspective it looks quite potentially bogus.
I nonetheless would like to reiterate my learned colleagues assertion that those who praise Goldstein are celebrating the murder of innocents and while I respect their right to hold such an opinion, I will roundly condemn it every chance I have.
In contradistinction to the middle however, I support the Supreme Court’s decision to return this property to its rightful owners. I don’t think it opens up a can of worms and should the Palestinians ever defeat us in a war and conquer this land, it would be perfectly acceptable for them to evict Jews en masse from property they deem belonged to someone else.
And given the opportunity, I’m sure they’ll do just that and more. Please recall that Sheikh Jarrah lies adjacent to the road to Mt Scopus and Hebrew U and that its Arab residents were the ones that perpetrated the massacre on the convoy going to Hadassah Hospital. Remember that?
One injustice doesn’t justify another but frankly, they lost the war. End of story. The rules of engagement were clear and unequivocal. All Jewish settlements conquered by Arab forces were rendered completely judenrein, their residents expelled, imprisoned and often raped and murdered.
Where was the international clamor for justice for the Jews expelled from the Old City between 1948 and 1967? There wasn’t any. Perhaps because there were no Jews left in East Jerusalem and the Jewish Quarter? Those homes in Sheikh Jarrah were built on land owned by Jews and the Supreme Court made the right decision to repatriate it back to its rightful owners. If the Palestinians ever gain control of that land, their Supreme Court can make whatever judgment it sees fit (if it ever even goes to a tribunal) till then, I for one have no issue with the notion of “to the victor go the spoils.”
I am unimpressed with this video as proof of anything. I could see no one singing the song, and the voice sounded slowed down, not the way it would sound if the video was natural. I do not doubt there are people who support the criminal Goldstein – I just doubt the veracity of this video.
Dr. Goldstein saved the lives of many Jews by preventing a massive pigua.
Rabin was the Commander who murdered Jews on the Altalena.
In some future time, when the Marxists have been removed from power in Israel, Goldstein will be remembered as the hero he was, and Rabin as the traitor.
Josh, will you at least be Middle’s Facebook friend?
Josh, I hear ya. From now on, only picture and video posts for you. Any requests?
Xisnotx, why?
Morrissey, why bother? No one is listening.
You don’t seem to remember the dozens of religious people that condemned the event. So ‘my types’ learnt that they should not bother to try and placate ‘your types’ with some fleeting sound bites.
As for middle, give us a break if you want to get a point across, and please cut down the length of the posts. They are too long for my Gen Z attention span and I only read the first paragraph here and the comments before I go back to tweeting and FB.
tm, how bout taking this a step farther — will you publicly oppose the Hebron Fund raising money here in the US tax free to support their settlements?
One would like to think there’s a nationalist, pro-settlement right that has no trouble distinguishing itself from, and condemning, Goldstein’s actions.
B-D’s paranoid lunacy is exactly the kind of reasoning that leads to sectarian massacres all over the world.
“Kill them before they kill you” is not the battle cry of a hero. It’s incitement to murder and genocide, be it Burundian Hutu vs. Tutsi, Nigerian Muslim vs. Christian, Bosnian Serb vs. Muslim, or Israeli Jew vs. Palestinian.
B-D, what exactly are you disagreeing with here that justifies the awfully harsh invective against the Middle? According to Ynet, the charming purim song went:
Muffti will drink to nearly anything but he won’t drink to that no matter what the Shamgar report had to say about the massacre. So, in any case, we could discover that Goldstein was a robot programmed to incite violence and entrap settlers and it still wouldn’t make singing songs about him by people who seem to be treating him like a martyr any more acceptable, would it? The question here, Muffti takes it is whether or not the singers here are inciting hatred and violence, not hte particularities of the Goldstein case.
Joshua:
A lot of this is true.
You can safely ignore Middle’s non-answer. We already know that Saint Rabin approved the Israeli secret service’s entrapment of settlers – to the point of creating a false insurgency.
And Middle’s bleating about “Israeli soldiers nearby” ignores the context of the incident – the government had already begun to withdraw forces as part of its plan to isolate/abandon the settlers.
The only people bleating here are the idiots celebrating the massacre Goldstein committed.
I didn’t get into it, but Yigal Amir’s murder of Rabin is part and parcel of this small movement that was supportive of Goldstein’s actions. The assassination of a sitting PM is hard to define as terrorism, in the way that Goldstein’s act was terrorism, but they come from the same ideological corner.
As for Ben David’s excuses about settlers being abandoned or isolated, he must be forgetting that settlements have grown dramatically since 1994, and had even grown during the Oslo years leading up to the Camp David offer by Israel. He must be forgetting how many communities the IDF protected regularly. He must be trying to erase the fact that there were soldiers just outside the Cave of the Patriarchs compound that day and that Goldstein was able to walk by them because they thought he was a soldier in the reserves.
How anybody could fall for the myth that this one time, on this particular day, just on the day a Jewish man opens fire on praying civilians, it magically happens to be the day when they are all planning to go out and kill Jews is beyond me. The myth is actually even more impressive because it suggests they are killed just before finishing their prayers after which they plan to go and massacre the Jews.
Baruch Goldstein is no different than a Hamas suicide bomber, except for one thing: he is Jewish and he did it to non-Jews. For that reason, he should be condemned in the clearest terms. He was a terrorist and his actions are on the same disgusting level as those of Palestinian terrorists. Those who justify what he did, are in effect justifying Palestinian terrorism against Israelis or Muslim terrorism against Americans or Spaniards. Terror is the intentional targeting of civilians and it is typically done by small groups or individuals with limited resources whose actions are political and whose goal is to sow fear while killing and harming as many of the other side’s civilians as they can. That’s what Palestinian terrorists do and that’s what Goldstein did.
I’m not going to condone Goldstein’s actions, but what about the results of the Shamgar Commission, which suggested that 1929 redux was about to happen? Also, I heard from some people say that the IDF later found guns under the prayer mats, as if in preparation for a massacre. How much of this is true?
Joshua, I think Rabin answers your question as does subsequent Israeli government destruction of Goldstein’s shrine. There were soldiers nearby if the Palestinians intended to attack.
Ben-David, Goldstein cast himself away from the Jewish people and those celebrating his murders are deserving of nothing but condemnation.
Unfortunately, your call to expunge the Goldsteinites from the “our” fold is more marginal than the movement you so rightfully condemn.
Ahhhh, now THAT’s the old Middle we know and… well, that’s the old Middle we know: a self-righteous know-nothing quick to turn on Jews not of his religious or political persuasion – especially if they’re Orthodox and/or nationalist.
Unfortunately, Ynet doesn’t share video contents (they’re not interested in real sharing, the video is ‘exclisively’ theirs).
As far as I’ve seen, you can’t even rip the code apart to get the link to use it in a workaround solution. If you wait a day or two, then a version of this might show up on, say, YouTube…
