The Times of Israel reports:
An ultra-Orthodox IDF soldier was attacked by dozens of ultra-Orthodox men in Jerusalem’s Mea Shearim neighborhood Tuesday night. He managed to escape the mob, who beat him with sticks and fists and threw eggs at him, by running into a nearby apartment building and calling the police… Municipal and Border Police who arrived on the scene were attacked by the growing crowd, as were medics called to the area. The attackers threw stones at the officers and called them Nazis. The police eventually managed to restore the peace and pulled the soldier out safely
In an act of extreme restraint, only four men were arrested for involvement in the attack – I mean they could very well have arrested everyone that was there. Apparently the attackers were angered at the prospect of being drafted to the IDF and took out their anger and frustration at the first innocent person in a uniform that came by randomly.
However this is a bad news/goo news situation. The bad news is obvious: Haredi Mob Attacks Orthodox IDF Soldier. That’s not cool my Hassidic brothers an sisters! Especially not in during the 9 nine days leading to Tisha B’Av, an especially inauspicious time for Jew on Jew hatred.
The good news? Given the impending draft, it’s reassuring that these future Haredi members of the IDF actually know how to fight!
